Title: Owner
Company: Charlie Foxtrot Brewing
Location: Port Charlotte, Florida, United States
Nicolas James York, owner of Charlie Foxtrot Brewing, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in food services.
A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. York teamed with a fellow former service member to launch Charlie Foxtrot Brewing in 2018. Along with sharing a love for beer, the two recognized the need to foster a sense of community among veterans who struggle to make the transition back to civilian life. To that end, Mr. York and his partner have not only created a venue where veterans and their supporters can feel welcome, they also donate a portion of proceeds to military-oriented organizations such as the 22 Project.
As he sought to build Charlie Foxtrot Brewing into a profitable business, Mr. York forged connections in the industry as a barback and manager of TT’s Tiki Bar in Punta Gorda, Florida, from 2019 to 2020. He also held positions as a nutritional services manager and supervisor for Encompass Health from 2020 to 2023, as a sales associate for AmeriLife Group, LLC, from 2017 to 2018, and as a sales representative for US Health Advisors in 2017. Additionally, Mr. York sought to bolster his professional prospects through the pursuit of higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in entrepreneurship, business administration, management and operations from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2020, after receiving an associate’s degree in military intelligence from Cochise College in 2016.
After joining the U.S. Army in 2011, Mr. York served as an infantry team leader into 2015, before moving on to military intelligence until his discharge in 2017. As a result of his distinguished service, he received the Army Accommodation Medal in 2015, as well as the Army’s Volunteer Service Award and recognition from foreign organizations. While still in high school, Mr. York accepted the Presidential Volunteer Award from President George W. Bush in 2009, a moment he counts among the highlights of his life. Along with his support for the 22 Project, Mr. York has been involved with the Sons of Valor nonprofit, is a long-term volunteer for the United Service Organizations, and has served as a lead volunteer for the Reserved Officer Training Course since 2009. Additional community involvement includes his memberships in the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization, and the local chamber of commerce.
With Charlie Foxtrot Brewing set to serve as the official beer sponsor of the Myakka River United semipro soccer team in 2025, Mr. York is already realizing his ambitious plans to expand the business. He aims to acquire a manufacturing facility to produce the company’s signature beverages and distribute them throughout the state of Florida within three to five years, and hopes to be ready to open a second location within seven years.
Mr. York attributes his success to his military background, which instilled in him the ability to remain resolute when adversity strikes. This resilience proved vital when it came to founding Charlie Foxtrot Brewing, enabling him to persevere through the trials and tribulations that accompanied this major life decision. Mr. York’s advice to anyone with similar entrepreneurial goals is to pursue the projects one is most passionate about, and to try to remember the initial motivation during challenging periods. When not pouring his energy into his growing business, Mr. York enjoys spending time with family and friends, and cherishes the feeling of being on the water.
