Joseph “Chris” Smith, director of sales at LearnUpon, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sports sales and education.
With over two decades of experience, Mr. Smith has built a successful career in sales and sports education. He currently serves as the director of sales and sales manager at LearnUpon since 2022. He has also been an investor at Seek Labs since 2021, Life Engineering since 2020, and Vital Metrix since 2018. His past roles include sales manager at Spiff Inc. in 2022, sales manager at Instructure from 2020 to 2022, regional director of sales at Instructure from 2015 to 2020, small business consultant at ADP in 2015, and regional sales manager at GHA Technologies Inc. from 2014 to 2015. He also worked as a Hewlett Packard EG SLED specialist, imaging and printing specialist, and Intel IADP enabling manager at MarketStar from 2010 to 2014, a sales specialist at Auction Direct Automotive from 2008 to 2010, and with the United States Department of Agriculture for five years.
In addition, Mr. Smith has been the head girls basketball coach at Davis School District since 2011 and previously coached there from 2003 to 2011, with experience as a substitute teacher. He is a member of the Utah Girls Basketball Coaches Association and has been active in the Van Ministry and as SWAT Team President at Griffin Memorial Church of God in Christ since 2012 and 2014, respectively. Notable achievements include four consecutive second-round state playoff appearances from 2020 to 2024 and exceeding sales quotas significantly at Instructure. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a bachelor’s degree in technical sales from Weber State University, completing his studies from 2003 to 2014. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in management and leadership. Additionally, he holds several certifications, such as Make the Move from Individual Contributor to Manager from LinkedIn, Customer Centric Selling Certification from CustomerCentric Selling®, Sales Prospecting from Lynda.com, Plantronics Contact Center Sales Certification from Plantronics, and Plantronics UC Sales from Plantronics.
Mr. Smith attributes his success to faith, hard work, perseverance, and confidence. Looking ahead, he plans to retire in the next few years, anticipating the performance of his investments and exploring his passion for teaching through a potential role as a substitute teacher. As a minority, he places great value on representation and is committed to ensuring inclusivity and a welcoming environment for all and is also drawn to public speaking and aims to create generational wealth for his family. Together with his wife, he is considering starting a business in consulting to assist companies in their growth and streamline their learning processes. In the long term, he is focused on building generational wealth through self-employment, investments, and real estate. Additionally, he has plans to open a facility dedicated to women’s sports.
