Building on nearly 50 years of experience, Dr. Todhunter has served as the president of SRS International since 1983. His company stands on the cutting edge of development and approval of new pharmaceutical and chemical products. Dr. Todhunter has established himself as a dependable figure in his field, with a proven track record of getting products approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He also prides himself on making strides in improving the efficiency of the regulation process.
Dr. Todhunter crafted a foundation for his current role with his past experience in the public sector and in academia. For two years, he held the position of assistant administrator of pesticides and toxic substances for the EPA, where he gained expertise in the regulatory process. Prior to that, Dr. Todhunter contributed as an assistant professor of biology at The Catholic University of America, during which time he also consulted for the FDA. His professional life began with a two-year research fellowship with Hoffman-La Roche, where he learned the ins and outs of pharmaceutical product development.
During his work as a consultant for the FDA and an assistant administrator for the EPA, Dr. Todhunter gained invaluable insight into what these agencies are looking for during the process of approving new products. He knows how to navigate government requests that can sometimes come across as vague or confusing. This knowledge has placed Dr. Todhunter into an esteemed position in his industry and has allowed him to guide many pharmaceutical, biologic and pesticide products toward approval successfully. He holds himself to a high standard of quality and efficiency, and he is known for never being afraid to tell a client the truth, even when it’s not what they want to hear.
Dr. Todhunter’s achievements have been bolstered by a strong education. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1971 and a Master of Science in chemistry in 1973, both from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1976, Dr. Todhunter earned a PhD in biochemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Throughout his academic journey, he picked up the skills necessary to be a creative problem-solver, which he believes has set him apart in his industry.
As a commitment to his field, Dr. Todhunter has maintained his professional affiliation with a number of pertinent organizations. He participates as a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. Dr. Todhunter is a fellow with the American Institute of Chemists and an emeritus member of the Society of Toxicology. He credits much of his success to his ability to stay updated on the latest developments in the field through groups like this. Additionally, Dr. Todhunter notes his responsiveness and ability to analyze problems as key factors in his accomplishments.
Outside of his career, Dr. Todhunter is a devoted husband, father to three and grandfather to seven. In his free time, he enjoys taking walks and fencing to keep active. Though he has a storied and successful professional life behind him already, Dr. Todhunter has no plans to retire for the foreseeable future. He intends to continue contributing to the development of new, safer products that can be enjoyed by consumers across the nation.
