With more than four decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Knollmeyer has established a successful career in construction. His current roles include president, chief executive officer, and founder of Knollmeyer Building Corp. Inc. since 1991 and president of Greylock Roofing Co. Inc. since 2001. In his current roles, he works with various clientele, including Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and Symphony Hall. He also is a donor and contractor for nonprofit organizations, such as Pine Street Inn and Project Hope. In light of his impressive charitable work, he was awarded the Person of the Year Award in 2023. Laying an educational foundation, he is a Passive House certified contractor, is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, The National Roofing Contractors Association, holds a Massachusetts construction supervisor license, a Boston ABC license, is a licensed Rhode Island commercial roofing contractor, and is a member of the Modular Building Institute.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Knollmeyer’s background in construction began in his younger years and continued through high school. He gained valuable experience working with an Engineering 500 firm for three years after school, which helped him realize his passion for construction. For the next five years, he honed his skills while working for a large general contractor, which led him to embark on his entrepreneurial journey, ultimately establishing his own successful business. He also takes immense pride in his daughter, who is now leading Greylock Roofing Co. Inc., and he is thrilled by the incredible success and recognition their company has achieved, including the dedication of their outstanding staff and the positive feedback from valued customers.
Reflecting on his journey, Mr. Knollmeyer finds it humbling to think back to the late 1970s when he managed a major reroofing project for a medical company. Overseeing the roof replacement for their new medical manufacturing facility was a significant milestone in his early career; now, 45 years later, he just replaced the same roof for the same company. He is deeply appreciative of the opportunities he has had and looks forward to the continued growth of his company. He attributes his success to the invaluable lessons from his father, who instilled in him the belief that one’s reputation is paramount, making it a point to uphold this principle in his own life and to instill it in his employees. He advocates for honesty, fairness, and a service-oriented approach, emphasizing the importance of treating customers and employees with respect. In the coming years, he and his team are eager to continue the great work they are doing and continue giving back to the community through donations, pro bono work, and support for charitable organizations.
Mr. Knollmeyer is thrilled with the organization he has built and the success they have achieved. After over 40 years of hard work, he has reached a point where everything is falling into place just as he had envisioned. He looks forward to continuing his fulfilling work into the future and anticipating retirement with his wife. Someday, Mr. Knollmeyer is excited about spending more time on activities he’s always wanted to pursue full-time, such as golf, boating, fishing, working in his home workshop, travel and spending precious moments with his granddaughter. The future looks bright, and he is eager to embrace every moment of it.
