In this role, he is responsible for constructing electrical facilities, managing and overseeing over 110 employees, and maintaining safe and reliable electrical service for over 200,000 customers in Entergy’s central Mississippi region. His experience also includes director of distribution operations at Entergy from 2018 to 2022, senior manager of region customer service at Entergy from 2016 to 2018, senior manager of region customer service at Entergy from 2014 to 2016, region manager at Entergy from 2010 to 2013, line supervisor at Entergy from 2004 to 2010, operations coordinator at Entergy from 2001 to 2003, and groundworker, apprentice lineman, and journeyman lineman at Entergy from 1987 to 2001.
Mr. Irby has also held several memberships with the American Association of Blacks in Energy, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He served on the board of directors for United Way and contributed to an academy through Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. In light of his impressive undertakings, he was honored with the Pinnacle Award from Entergy in 1992 and the Award of Excellence from Entergy and was recognized as a National Dean’s List Scholar. He laid a solid educational foundation for these successes by earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in management from Jackson State University, graduating summa cum laude in 2008, and a Master of Business Administration in human resources management and personnel administration from Louisiana State University Shreveport in 2019.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Irby began his journey in 1987 and embarked on a mission to secure a stable and rewarding job to support his family. Despite starting with no prior experience, he embraced training and began his career as a groundworker at Entergy, the entry-level position at the time. Through unwavering dedication and hard work, he quickly advanced, becoming a journeyman lineman and later excelling as an operations coordinator. In 2003, his skills led to his promotion to line supervisor. His journey continued as he rose to the role of region manager in 2010, his leadership skills eventually earned him the position of senior manager of region customer service in 2014, and his journey culminated in him achieving director of distribution operations in 2018.
Mr. Irby takes great pride in his career advancement. He is the first in his family to earn a degree and cherishes his role and accomplishments at Entergy. In the coming years, he is committed to advancing his current activities while strategically expanding his business operations. He aims to maintain his connection to the electrical field without overcommitting. Although he feels he has completed his time in the industry, he has reconnected with Entergy to assist with specific projects. He intends to keep his consulting business small and manageable, with the option to take on additional work if needed.
