With over five decades of experience, Dr. Vinso has established a distinguished career in finance and economics, specializing in business valuation, forensic economics, financial economics, corporate finance, and investment analysis. He is currently president and owner of Financial Resources Management Inc., a role he has held since 1981. Additionally, he served as the inaugural Donald and Carol Jean Byrnes professor of finance and accounting at the University of Montana from 2003 to 2007, a tenured professor of finance at the University of Southern California from 1979 to 1992, and an assistant professor at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania from 1973 to 1979.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Dr. Vinso earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University in 1964, a Master of Business Administration from Central Michigan University in 1970, and a PhD in financial economics from the University of Michigan in 1973. He is also an accredited senior appraiser, master certified business appraiser, and registered principal with the National Association of Securities Dealers, as well as investment advisory registrations in California, Nevada, and Montana, and Series 7, Series 63, and Series 65 licenses.
Throughout his career, Dr. Vinso has provided expert testimony to the U.S. Senate and various courts, including United States District Courts in California, Arizona, Montana, and Michigan, United States Bankruptcy Courts in Pennsylvania and California, California Superior Courts, District Courts in Nevada, Indiana, and Montana and United States Tax Court. Additionally, he provided testimony for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Board of Contract Appeals, and the Tribal Court of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes. He has participated in management education programs and has been part of a consulting group providing privatization guidance throughout the former Soviet Union, including Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. Notably, he was awarded two National Science Foundation grants totaling approximately $400,000 to study mitigation and recovery models related to natural disasters, and he has presented his findings to the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Small Business and the New England River Basin Commission.
An accomplished author, Dr. Vinso has written eight books, including one translated into Russian, and over 50 professional papers in finance, financial economics, and business valuation. He is an active reviewer for leading finance journals and publishing companies and has been honored with an outstanding publication award from the California Society of CPAs. He is also involved as a member of the American Society of Appraisers, a fellow at the Institute of Business Appraisers, and has served as a past director of the Rotary Club of Missoula and a board member of Rotary District 5390, Rotary International. Additionally, he was a treasurer for the Court Appointed Special Advocate program with Rotary District 5390 and has been an external board member at SG Long Financial Inc. for over 20 years. He attributes his accomplishments to his genuine passion and high-level proficiency, believing that loving what you do and excelling at it are fundamental keys to success. In the coming years, his primary goal is to sustain and build on the valuable work he has undertaken, while exploring new initiatives.
