Rick Inatome, Managing Director at Collegio Partners LLC and Chairman of Léman Manhattan Preparatory School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in technology.

Mr. Inatome has established himself as a leader in technology and computers for nearly 50 years, having been a pioneer of the digital age and now being on the front wave of the AI era. However, that was not his original intention. When he attended Michigan State University in the early 1970s, his plan was to pursue a career as a doctor. While he was completing pre-med coursework, Mr. Inatome received an article about the world’s first computer from his father. Discovering how fascinated he was by this innovation, he soon started building computers in his dorm room. By the time he graduated, Mr. Inatome had made the choice to switch paths and focus on his true passion in the technology world.

In 1976, Mr. Inatome founded his first business, Inacomp Computer Centers. Leading this organization for more than 20 years, he established a distribution channel for cutting-edge technology, aiding in the introduction of the first personal computers to both corporations and the general public. Under Mr. Inatome’s guidance, Inacomp Computer Centers grew into a Fortune 500 company by educating new computer owners and providing high-quality customer support. During this time, he also worked directly with such computer industry icons as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, serving as a dealer for their groundbreaking products and later offering his insight as chair of Microsoft’s initial advisory board and as a member of Apple’s board of advisers.

Later, in his time with Inacomp Computer Centers, Mr. Inatome took on the position of chief executive officer and chairman for American Speedy Printing, a national printing chain that was on the verge of bankruptcy, and turned it around during his five-year tenure with the company. In 1998, he became managing director of Mentor Capital Partners, leveraging his experiences as part of an investment group that had acquired Sylvan Learning Centers and built it into the nation’s largest provider of tutoring, supplemental learning and computerized testing. Mr. Inatome also contributed as the managing director for Sterling Capital Partners and in various roles with IBM.

Since 2010, Mr. Inatome has drawn on his vast portfolio of experience in support of his role as managing director of Collegio Partners LLC. Under his leadership, Collegio focuses on facilitating the integration of AI into education at all levels. It is his overarching objective to help educational institutions harness the power of AI and unlock its potential for learning across the full spectrum of neurodiversity.

Known for his contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Mr. Inatome’s professional life includes a wide range of nonprofit work. He has served on more than 100 boards throughout his career, including 30 nonprofits. Since 2020, Mr. Inatome has been chairman of the board for the Léman Manhattan Preparatory School, an international baccalaureate institution serving students from preschool to grade 12.

Highly regarded for his accomplishments, Mr. Inatome has been the recipient of numerous accolades. He is an inductee into the Computer Hall of Fame and has been named Entrepreneur of the Year by Inc. Magazine and Michiganian of the Year. In 2023, Mr. Inatome was knighted into the Royal Order of Francis I by the Royal House of Bourbon of the Two Sicilies. He counts the democratization of personal computing—on par with the cultural impact of television—as one of his proudest achievements.

Mr. Inatome attributes his success to the influence of his entrepreneurial father, mentorship from the founders of Apple and Microsoft and his ability to recognize opportunities for major change in the world. He is especially proud of his family, including his wife, three children and three grandchildren.
