Laying a strong educational foundation, he earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Indiana University Bloomington in 2016. He also gives back to the community, offering a scholarship to graduating seniors from a local high school each year, granting an annual Ambition Award, volunteering at a food pantry, sponsoring local soccer through TVO, and engaging in fundraising efforts.
Reflecting on his path, when Mr. Wagner took ownership of Wagner Lumber & Supply, the business was averaging $1.2 million in revenue. Through strategic planning and collaboration with his team, he successfully doubled the revenue despite rising costs and bills. A key aspect of this growth was expanding visibility and recognition for the business. Additionally, to further the company’s reach, while he has yet to formally enter the Illinois market, he has coordinated delivery services to serve customers in that area.
Mr. Wagner attributes his success to the unwavering support of his team, whose experience in construction and commitment to growth have been instrumental. Beginning his career in his hometown allowed him to leverage local connections and opportunities. He also credits his father’s initial financial backing and 25 years of business management expertise, which he believes provided him invaluable guidance. He also acknowledges the importance of having a mentor in the industry and the steadfast encouragement of his wife. Looking to the future, he will continue to expand Wagner Lumber & Supply into the hardware sector. He is actively exploring opportunities to acquire another store or build a new hardware store to capture additional market share. He is also focused on expanding resources and creating more relationships within the industry to deepen his understanding of additional aspects of the industry.
