Over the past 10 years, he has amassed a portfolio of 25 rental properties and 15 to 16 additional properties while ensuring tenant compliance with property responsibilities, timely rent payments, lease renewals, and adherence to government requirements. During this time, he was also active as a laboratory manager at NYU Grossman School of Medicine from 2010 to 2024. Prior to these positions, Mr. Mattos served as the laboratory operations manager at Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology with Dermpath Diagnostics from 2001 to 2008 and the laboratory manager at NYU Langone Hospitals from 2009 to 2010.
Mr. Mattos began his career as chief administrator at Universidad de la Republica Uruguay from 1977 to 1985. He later worked as the president of the National Housing Authority of Uruguay from 1981 to 1982. His transition into the medical field was influenced by his early experiences in Uruguay’s education system under a dictatorship, which led him to switch from medicine to administration before relocating to the United States. Mr. Mattos subsequently found success at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he advanced from a technician to a supervisor and, ultimately, a manager.
Mr. Mattos attributes his accomplishments to his unwavering determination and resilience, particularly as a two-year cancer survivor who overcame significant adversity during treatment. His personal journey has fueled his drive for success and shaped his approach to both business and life. He has also attributed his stellar accomplishments to his academic background, which includes a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Universidad de la Republica Uruguay and studies in clinical laboratory science, clinical histology technology, and pathology with the State University of New York system. Looking toward the future, Mr. Mattos aims to finalize the establishment of his corporation with strategic objectives that include financial independence from traditional banking institutions and contributing positively to society through community engagement.
