Widy Matulik, principal at The Bonadio Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in accounting.

Having considered herself numbers-oriented and fascinated with math since her high school days, Ms. Matulik has now dedicated more than 20 years to the field of accounting. She first joined The Bonadio Group in 2003 as an accountant and now serves as a principal within the company’s tax division. Ms. Matulik has demonstrated expertise in multiple areas of public accounting, including payroll, sales tax, and individual, corporate, and partnership returns. She provides full accounting services to clients in the entertainment industry, as well as tax planning.

Ms. Matulik’s trajectory has been supported by her mentor and senior colleague at The Bonadio Group. As a fellow woman in the accounting field who has been active professionally for over 10 years longer than Ms. Matulik, this mentor has been able to teach her how to prosper as a woman in a space that is often male-dominated. This mentor pursued business management despite being advised against it due to her gender. She succeeded at establishing a client base of esteemed entertainers. Having grown familiar with the intricacies of this work, Ms. Matulik is prepared to take over these responsibilities in the future. She is deeply grateful for the guidance she has received and also prides herself on offering mentorship to others.

Before venturing onto her vocational path, Ms. Matulik set an academic foundation for her future. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Binghamton University, part of the State University of New York system. Ms. Matulik has further backed up her credentials by affiliation with a number of pertinent organizations. She maintains membership in Women in Accounting and the Long Island Business Network.

When comparing herself to other accountants and tax professionals, Ms. Matulik distinguishes herself by focusing on problem-solving and adapting to the needs of each client rather than rigid routines and processes. She works closely with each client to understand what financial assistance they need and what their goals are for the future, using that information to inform her work with them. Ms. Matulik is driven by a determination to explore all avenues until she finds the best possible solution to a challenge. For her clients, this approach has been reflected through persistence and responsibility—attributes that have made her well-liked and a reliable source of repeat business.

Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Matulik is widely recognized at The Bonadio Group for her love of Purpose Day, the company’s annual day of service. She considers the first Purpose Day after joining the company to be one of her fondest memories, and she continues to look forward to it every year. Ms. Matulik also donates to several organizations and causes that she is passionate about beyond her work with The Bonadio Group. She considers giving back to her community to be deeply personal and important, and she’s glad to work for a company that is committed to those same values.

Outside of work hours, Ms. Matulik finds joy in reading, drawing, playing video games and watching anime. She also devotes as much time as possible to her daughter and her cat, Chezz. Looking ahead, Ms. Matulik looks forward to continuing to build her career with The Bonadio Group, with the aspiration of one day becoming a partner in the firm. She aims to grow the company, particularly its connections to the entertainment industry, where she envisions demand for state-level tax expertise expanding.
