Joan Elizabeth Boettger, owner at Encore Music & Arts, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the Performing Arts.

Ms. Boettger has established a distinguished career in music education and performance that has spanned decades. As the owner of Encore Music & Arts, she operates independently, managing all aspects of her business. Since founding her studio, Ms. Boettger has dedicated herself to teaching students of all ages and skill levels, drawing from an extensive repertoire and tailoring lessons to every client’s individual interests. Her approach emphasizes not only technical proficiency but also the joy and fulfillment that music can bring to people’s lives.

Before establishing her studio, Ms. Boettger built a multifaceted career as a professional performer. She has appeared in opera, musical theater, jazz performances, commercials and film, experiences that have enriched her teaching with practical insights and a broad artistic perspective. Among her most notable achievements was her performance as Lalume in the operetta “Kismet,” a role she found both challenging and rewarding due to its demanding repertoire. This experience allowed her to collaborate with artists from various states and opera companies, deepening her appreciation for the art form and expanding her professional network. Additionally, Ms. Boettger was hired to perform in Bermuda for a millennium symphony, further highlighting her versatility and international reach as a vocalist.

In addition to music education, Ms. Boettger enjoys training clients in her home studio and teaching water aerobics, balance classes and step classes as a certified personal trainer. These activities reflect both her commitment to wellness and enthusiasm for helping others achieve their goals.

Ms. Boettger’s academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance with a concentration in opera from Virginia Commonwealth University. Notably, piano served as her secondary instrument during her studies, providing her with a well-rounded musical background. The rigorous training she received at the university was instrumental in shaping her abilities as both a performer and educator. In addition to her formal music education, Ms. Boettger holds a personal trainer certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, which complements her interest in physical fitness and informs her holistic approach to teaching.

Active in her professional community, Ms. Boettger is affiliated with several professional organizations. She is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, the Cary-Apex Piano Teachers Association and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. These memberships reflect her commitment to ongoing professional development and engagement with the broader music education community.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Ms. Boettger has contributed to numerous civic projects, including donations to veterans’ organizations and children’s hospitals, directing children’s choirs and supporting local church initiatives through charitable giving.

Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Boettger was recognized through her acceptance into prestigious programs, such as the Spoleto Vocal Symposium in 2000. She attributes much of her success to the unwavering support of her family, particularly her parents, who recognized her talent early on and enrolled her in piano, dance and singing lessons as a child. The musical influence within Ms. Boettger’s family extended across generations. While her mother and aunt sang on the radio as children, one of her uncles performed in bands throughout his life.

Ms. Boettger’s teaching philosophy centers on sharing positivity, energy and happiness with those around her, a quality she believes is reflected in the uplifting atmosphere of her studio. She considers it an honor to pass on the knowledge gained from years of study and professional experience to new generations of musicians. Looking ahead, Ms. Boettger intends to continue expanding Encore Music & Arts while sharing happiness and knowledge with everyone she meets. She hopes that her legacy will be defined by positivity, expertise and an enduring impact on those whose lives she touches through music education.
