Title: Owner
Company: IDT Roofing Systems
Location: Mooresville, Indiana, United States
Cody Heller, owner of IDT Roofing Systems, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in construction management and business development.
Mr. Heller has developed his career over the last 10 years, initially taking inspiration from his father, a union carpenter who worked on major infrastructure and building projects. While Mr. Heller was attending college, his father suffered an accident that led to financial hardship. Taking the initiative, he left college early and entered the workforce sooner than intended, focusing on gaining experience across a variety of trades. Mr. Heller demonstrated an innate ability at woodworking that served him well in the early days of his professional journey. His first jobs focused primarily on custom carpentry work.
In 2016, Mr. Heller’s girlfriend (now his wife) introduced him to the roofing industry. He took on the role of sales representative at Jackson Contracting Inc., a residential roofing company located in Indianapolis. Quickly showcasing his leadership, Mr. Heller advanced within the organization and aided in improving its business operations. He played a key role in growing the company to the point that it was acquired in 2021.
That same year, Mr. Heller founded his own business, Innovative Design Theory. At first constrained by a noncompete agreement, he started this company focusing on carpentry and home renovations. As Mr. Heller built the company’s reputation and grew his team from just a few employees to nearly 50, he renamed the company IDT Roofing Systems and returned to the field where he had grown so much. The company works with both residential and commercial clients, specializing in metal roofs and shingles.
Immensely proud of his accomplishment in starting his own company, Mr. Heller aims to set IDT Roofing Systems apart from competitors by approaching every project with the same commitment to customer satisfaction. Whether the organization is hired to install the roof on a large commercial building or for a small home repair, Mr. Heller ensures a strong attention to detail, and he can ensure that because he is far more hands-on than most business owners. He notes that being on-site with workers is his favorite part of the job. Every assignment that IDT Roofing Systems accepts is assigned a dedicated project manager, and Mr. Heller personally conducts initial consultations, sales meetings, and pre- and post-construction walkthroughs with clients and project managers.
Although he was forced to end his education prematurely, Mr. Heller set himself up for success with what academic work he was able to take on. Most importantly, he completed coursework in commercial low-slope and metal roof systems at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Although it was not his initial plan, Mr. Heller is happy to have broken the stigma that being successful requires having a college degree, and he encourages younger people to explore alternate paths, especially in trades. His own devotion to this direction has earned him accolades from others in the industry, including being featured in Metal Roofing Magazine in 2024.
Beyond his career, Mr. Heller is a loving husband and father to one, pointing to his family as his reason for working hard while emphasizing the importance of having a home life as well. He additionally finds fulfillment in exercising, mountain biking, hiking, playing pickleball, running and watching football games. As he moves forward, Mr. Heller plans to continue growing IDT Roofing Systems by hiring a team of sales representatives who can be paired with dedicated project managers. He also hopes to purchase vacation homes in multiple states, both for use with his family and as rental properties that can generate income.
