Joel A. Paiva Guzman, vice president of business-to-business sales and procurement and co-owner of Stand Strong Fencing, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in home and consumer services.
For 20-plus years, Mr. Paiva Guzman has established himself as a strong business mind across industries and countries. Born and raised in Venezuela, he established his leadership skills during a lengthy 15-year tenure with British American Tobacco beginning in 2007. Joining the company while living in Brazil, Mr. Paiva Guzman initially held the role of head of procurement for C.A. Cigarrera Bigott, the Venezuelan subsidiary of British American Tobacco. Quickly recognized for his abilities, he was soon promoted to procurement strategy and planning manager for the Americas region and head of indirect procurement for the Americas region.
Mr. Paiva Guzman moved to the United Kingdom in 2014, stepping into the position of global category manager for marketing professional services for British American Tobacco. Across five years in this role, he was in charge of developing and managing the business strategy for the organization’s global marketing efforts. Following that, Mr. Paiva Guzman accepted his ultimate position at British American Tobacco: head of procurement for vaping products. He operated as the global lead for negotiating with manufacturers in one of the business’s cutting-edge new products.
Immigrating to the United States in 2022, Mr. Paiva Guzman joined Reynolds American Inc. as the senior director of procurement. An American subsidiary of British American Tobacco operating independently, Reynolds saw him managing a budget of over $1.4 billion a year, with an aim of generating savings and minimizing supply chain risks.
Since 2024, Mr. Paiva Guzman has served as the vice president of business-to-business sales and procurement for Stand Strong Fencing, which he co-owns with his wife. He was driven to the fencing business when he recognized it as an area with significant growth potential within the United States, as well as an area that would benefit from a more professional approach. Mr. Paiva Guzman oversees all operations for the business, with a focus on business-to-business, including networking with suppliers and vendors, negotiating contracts and monitoring sales. While he doesn’t handle residential sales directly, he supervises the salesperson responsible for that portion of the business and coordinates with them on production efforts.
Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Paiva Guzman has been backed up by his education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Central University of Venezuela. Mr. Paiva Guzman has further supported his credentials through a number of licenses. He is certified in design thinking and business-to-consumer marketing through LinkedIn. Mr. Paiva Guzman credits his success to his strong work ethic, competitiveness and focus on achieving results, as well as the unwavering support of his wife. In addition to his career, Mr. Paiva Guzman is a devoted husband and a loving father to one daughter. When not working, he fills his life with baseball, scuba diving, golf, meditation, networking and traveling to experience new cultures. Mr. Paiva Guzman’s goal for the immediate future is to grow Stand Strong Fencing, with the ultimate aim of establishing a legacy for his family. He intends to become the leading fencing company in North Carolina, while also exploring ways to give back to his community both in the United States and back in his home country of Venezuela.
