Andre “AJ” Jacobs, Owner at South Texas AMC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements and leadership in the Automotive Industry.
Mr. Jacobs has established a notable reputation in the automotive restoration and AMC vehicle community, particularly through his longstanding role as the owner of South Texas AMC since 1982. Over the course of more than four decades, he has demonstrated expertise in restoration, automotive work, part sales and technical support for AMC vehicles. Mr. Jacobs’s responsibilities include all aspects of the business, from answering phone calls and emails, and checking inventory for sought-after parts to providing technical and restoration advice at no cost to clients, and managing the logistics of pulling, packing and shipping parts from his small junkyard. Mr. Jacobs is widely recognized for his willingness to assist enthusiasts with their projects, reflecting both his technical acumen and commitment to customer service.
In addition to his primary business, Mr. Jacobs has contributed his skills to several respected organizations within the automotive industry throughout the years. In the early 1990s, he worked with Jeff Lilly Restorations, where he further honed his restoration abilities. During this period, Mr. Jacobs was also associated with Chief Auto Parts, gaining valuable experience in automotive retail and supply chain management.
In 1986, Mr. Jacobs also worked at Greg’s Engine Machine Shop and served as a mechanic at MPW Mechanical Services, roles that deepened his understanding of engine mechanics and repair techniques. His early career also included time with Blackmon’s Garage and Craig’s Machine Shop, where he developed a comprehensive knowledge of automotive systems and machine shop operations. Mr. Jacobs’s journey into the industry began at age eight when he started assisting his father with automotive repairs by handing him tools. This formative experience sparked a lifelong passion for working on cars.
As the president of the Alamo AMC Car Club since its founding in 1995, Mr. Jacobs has played a pivotal role in fostering community among AMC enthusiasts in the region. He has managed club activities, organized events and served as the club’s skilled engine builder. Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Jacobs is civically engaged as a volunteer with Northern Hills United Methodist Church. He also serves as the neighborhood president for the Oaks North Estates Neighborhood Association. As a youth, Mr. Jacobs served as a quartermaster in the Boy Scouts and was a rifle team captain in the ROTC for several years.
Mr. Jacobs’s passion for restoration work became evident when he restored a car on a limited budget for a client whose vehicle went on to win multiple trophies at car shows. Notably, at one event featuring 15 two-seater AMXs, his restoration competed against nationally recognized show cars and placed third, a remarkable feat given budget constraints. Mr. Jacobs has also notably built engines for both AMC cars and Jeeps. His early experiences laid a strong foundation for his later achievements.
In light of his expertise, Mr. Jacobs was featured in the magazine article ‘Ultimate American V-8 Engine Data Book 1949-74’ in 1992. His historical knowledge of American Motors Corporation vehicles has also led to features in additional magazines and books, further cementing his status as a respected historian within the field.
Mr. Jacobs attributes his success to thorough knowledge of automobiles and his unwavering honesty in all professional dealings. Looking ahead, he does not anticipate retirement due to his enjoyment of work. Instead, he is interested in acquiring an automotive parts store and machine shop from an owner seeking to sell, as well as considering opportunities to purchase national AMC parts businesses. Mr. Jacobs’s long and distinguished career reflects decades of dedication to automotive restoration, community leadership and historical preservation within the AMC community, achievements that have earned him recognition as an expert in his field.
