Alleen Crooks, Owner at Make it Mine by A. Justice Design, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements and leadership in the Fashion Industry.

Ms. Crooks has become recognized in the field of letterman jacket design and production, demonstrating more than two decades of expertise. Since 2014, she has owned and operated Make it Mine by A. Justice Design in Morgan Hill, California. In this capacity, Ms. Crooks manages all aspects of the business, including her small team of talented employees, sales and orders, sewing and embroidery, and administrative tasks. As an expert in graphic design, laser engraving and integrating new decoration technologies, Ms. Crooks continues to grow her business through a combination of innovation and customer satisfaction.

A significant milestone in Ms. Crooks’s professional journey has been her ability to sustain and grow her business through the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite considerable operational disruptions across the industry, she maintained uninterrupted service and ensured the company’s continued viability. This accomplishment stands as a testament to Ms. Crooks’s resilience and adaptability in a rapidly changing environment.

Before taking ownership of Make it Mine by A. Justice Design, Ms. Crooks worked as a seamstress for San Mateo County for over five years. During this period, she refined her technical skills and deepened her understanding of garment construction and customization. Ms. Crooks also worked as a sewer at Canvasworks in Sunnyvale, California, where she contributed to various textile projects that further developed her craftsmanship, and at Fritzis, also in California, marking the beginning of her professional journey in the industry.

Ms. Crooks’s educational background includes an Associate of Science in fashion design from West Valley College in Saratoga, California, conferred in 2005. The program provided her with foundational knowledge in pattern making, garment construction and design principles that have been instrumental throughout her career.

Beyond her primary work-related endeavors, Ms. Crooks is an active member of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce. She is also affiliated with Rotary International, reflecting a broader commitment to service.

Ms. Crooks’ early interest in sewing began at age 12 under the guidance of her aunt and mother. Her decision to purchase Make it Mine by A. Justice Design began when she visited the shop to complete a letterman jacket for her son after a contract worker’s departure left it unfinished. Volunteering to help complete the project, she was introduced to the chenille machine, which led to increased responsibilities within the business. Ultimately, this experience culminated in Ms. Crooks purchasing the company when the previous owners decided to sell it.

Recognized for her expertise in letterman jacket design and production, Ms. Crooks has built on these qualities to sustain her success. She also notes her persistence, attentive listening to customers and her transparency throughout the creative process. By leveraging technology and encouraging customer involvement at every stage, she consistently delivers products that exceed expectations. Throughout her career, Ms. Crooks has also drawn inspiration from several mentors and colleagues who have shaped her approach to business and design.

Looking ahead, Ms. Crooks intends to expand outreach efforts with local schools by partnering with educational institutions to create custom jackets for students. She also plans to increase production capacity by acquiring additional equipment and implementing employee incentive programs, such as commission-based compensation structures. These initiatives will enhance competitiveness against overseas manufacturers while providing opportunities for staff advancement. Ultimately, Ms. Crooks’s goal is for each client or student who receives one of her creations to feel excitement and passion for their piece, to know that their vision was heard, valued and brought vividly to life through transparent collaboration and expert craftsmanship.
