Aaron Marshalek, Owner at Frontiers Unlimited Knife and Outdoor Store, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Recreation and Retail.
Lauded for his leadership, Mr. Marshalek has overseen daily operations as the sole proprietor of Frontiers Unlimited Knife and Outdoor Store in Lisbon, Ohio, since 2026. His responsibilities include managing all aspects of the business, from customer service to inventory control and community engagement. The store serves not only as an outdoor retail space that specializes in knives and gear but also as a small museum adorned with military memorabilia, reflecting Mr. Marshalek’s commitment to preserving local history and providing a tangible shopping experience for customers.
The Frontiers Unlimited Knife and Outdoor Store holds deep personal significance for Mr. Marshalek, who frequented it as a child and maintained a close relationship with its previous owner, Vance Adams. After Mr. Adams’ passing, Mr. Marshalek acquired the business from his widow in 2025 and dedicated a year to renovating the historic building before hosting a grand reopening in March 2026.
Transitioning from a distinguished military career in the U.S. Army to entrepreneurship presented unique challenges for Mr. Marshalek. He credits patience as a vital lesson learned during this period, particularly while undertaking extensive renovations on a building dating back to the 1800s. Despite initial apprehension about the scale of work required, he approached each task methodically and completed major improvements within four months. This experience reinforced Mr. Marshalek’s belief in perseverance and incremental progress, values that continue to guide his approach to business.
What distinguishes Mr. Marshalek in his field is his dedication to maintaining a traditional brick-and-mortar establishment at a time when many competitors have shifted online. He has created an inviting environment where visitors can gather, converse and explore both products and history. Driven by a desire to inspire the next generation, Mr. Marshalek aims to attract children and families through educational programs, such as nature walks and outdoor classes. His vision is rooted in fostering curiosity about the natural world while encouraging meaningful connections beyond digital screens.
Mr. Marshalek honorably served as a Green Beret in the U.S. Army from 1998 to 2024. Over the course of more than 25 years, he developed expertise in first response and military medicine, fields in which he is widely regarded for his advanced knowledge and skill. As a Green Beret medic, he received comprehensive training across multiple disciplines, including trauma care, veterinary medicine, obstetrics and dental procedures. In many deployment locations overseas, Mr. Marshalek was often among the most highly trained medical professionals available.
In the latter part of his military service, Mr. Marshalek was recruited into the Joint Special Operations Command with a focus on counter-weapons of mass destruction medicine. This specialized role required him to complete six years of advanced civilian and military training related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats, a field where few possess comparable depth of experience. Mr. Marshalek’s expertise led him to become one of the subject matter experts within the U.S. Department of Defense.
A highlight of Mr. Marshalek’s career was his brief assignment at the White House in 2019 during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. There, he contributed research on viral origins and provided specialized training for high-level Secret Service agents and other personnel supporting the president of the United States. This opportunity stands out as one of Mr. Marshalek’s proudest professional milestones.
Mr. Marshalek’s academic background reflects his commitment to continuous learning and professional development. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern studies and languages from American Military University in 2015 and a Master of Science in pharmacology and toxicology from the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, in 2021. Further enhancing Mr. Marshalek’s credentials, he completed the CBRNE-WMD designation from the College of Professional Studies at The George Washington University in 2026. Additionally, he received a graduate certificate in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense from the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University and a graduate certificate in clinical toxicology from the University of Florida.
Beyond professional commitments, Mr. Marshalek is deeply involved with civic revitalization efforts aimed at restoring vibrancy to Lisbon following economic decline tied to regional industry shifts. He collaborates with local partners on initiatives such as organizing endurance events designed to draw visitors back into town while showcasing its natural attractions like Beaver Creek and nearby trails.
Throughout his career, Mr. Marshalek has been recognized for excellence with several honors, including four Bronze Star awards for meritorious service during combat deployments. He attributes much of his success to the values instilled by his parents during his upbringing.
Looking ahead, Mr. Marshalek intends to further expand Frontiers Unlimited Knife and Outdoor Store while developing programs that educate children about outdoor skills, continuing the legacy inspired by Vance Adams, who first sparked his love for nature decades earlier. To those considering entry into this field or embarking on any new venture, he advises embracing lifelong learning while approaching challenges step by step with patience and presence, principles that have guided him through every phase of his remarkable journey.
