Mark G. Fornasiero, managing partner at Clarendon Capital, LLC, has been recognized by Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements and leadership in transportation and logistics private equity investment.
Throughout an exceptional career spanning nearly three decades, Mr. Fornasiero has cemented himself as an expert in transportation and logistics private equity investment. As co-founder and managing partner of Clarendon Capital LLC since 1998, he has guided the firm to become a prominent investor in the middle-market transportation and logistics sector. Under his leadership, Clarendon Capital has achieved investment returns approximately double the industry standard for exited investments. The aforementioned firm is widely regarded for its role in supporting entrepreneur- and family-owned businesses, helping them achieve significant growth and become industry leaders. Mr. Fornasiero is particularly proud of his contributions to the success of companies such as RoadOne, Evans Network and Allstates World Cargo, where his collaborative approach has created jobs and strengthened market positions.
Prior to establishing Clarendon Capital, Mr. Fornasiero found success as the senior manager at Kearney from 1994 to 1998. In this position, he was part of one of the largest specialized transportation logistics practices in the consulting industry. This experience deepened his expertise and provided him with valuable insights into the sector’s complexities.
Mr. Fornasiero’s professional journey began at Princeton Transportation Group (now Manhattan Associates) following his graduation from college in 1989. Working at this high-tech startup—founded by faculty from Princeton University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology—he was introduced to innovative models aimed at improving trucking network efficiency. This initial exposure ignited his passion for the transportation and logistics field and allowed him to build a strong foundation for his future endeavors.
Mr. Fornasiero’s decision to focus on transportation and logistics private equity investment was shaped by more than a decade of hands-on experience alongside his long-time business partner, Mike Raui. Their shared background provided them with credibility and an extensive network within the industry, enabling them to identify unique opportunities that leveraged their strengths.
To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Fornasiero pursued an education at Cornell University, from which he earned both a Bachelor of Science in operations research and a Bachelor of Arts in economics with distinction at Cornell University in 1989. He subsequently graduated with a Master of Business Administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1994, where he was acknowledged as an Arjay Miller Scholar for outstanding academic performance. The analytical skills developed through these rigorous programs have been instrumental in shaping Mr. Fornasiero’s strategic approach to investment and business development.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Fornasiero has learned that identifying investments aligned with one’s unique differentiators is essential for long-term success. He emphasizes building genuine relationships based on mutual trust with entrepreneurs who have dedicated their lives to their businesses. Frequently acting as the first institutional investor for many companies, he understands the significance of partnership and collaboration in achieving shared goals.
Mr. Fornasiero also cites his resilience—shaped by frequent moves during childhood and early family challenges—as fundamental to his achievements. These formative experiences instilled adaptability and ambition, motivating him to set high goals and pursue them with determination.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Fornasiero is deeply committed to civic engagement and philanthropy. Since 2009, he has served on the national board of the “I Have a Dream” Foundation, an education nonprofit dedicated to supporting children from under-resourced communities from first grade through their first job. As chairman of the Washington, D.C., chapter since 2026 and previously as vice chairman from 2018 to 202, he has played an instrumental role in launching new chapters across major cities including Atlanta and Philadelphia. Mr. Fornasiero’s leadership has contributed to initiatives that have achieved a 96 percent high school graduation rate among participants.
Additionally, Mr. Fornasiero contributes as president of the Cornell Club of Washington Inc., where he leads fundraising efforts for scholarships benefiting financially needy students attending Cornell University. He also holds positions as chairman or director on several boards within the transportation, logistics and distribution sectors. Between 2023 and 2025, Mr. Fornasiero’s professional excellence has been recognized through multiple accolades, including inclusion among Top 50 Private Equity Firms by Grady Campbell Inc. and Founder-Friendly Investors by Inc. Magazine.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Fornasiero aims to expand Clarendon Capital’s presence within the middle market segment of transportation and logistics private equity investment by raising additional funds and increasing support for entrepreneurs seeking growth capital. He sees substantial opportunity for value creation by scaling existing strategies while strengthening his team’s capabilities. For those aspiring to enter this competitive field, Mr. Fornasiero advises cultivating distinctive experiences that establish credibility with investors while seeking out partners who bring compelling offerings to the table.
