With many years of experience to his credit, Mr. Weiss has found much success as the founder and chief executive officer of Barton G. since 2000. In 2002, he opened his first restaurant, Barton G., in the South Beach region of Miami, Florida. In the years that followed, he established Prelude by Barton G., a seamless theatrical/dining experience at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami in 2009, a successful hotel and restaurant in Miami Beach in 2010 and Barton G. The Restaurant in Los Angeles in 2014. In addition to these endeavors, he was appointed to the Wedding Advisory Board for Town & Country Magazine as an inaugural member. But following a spinal injury in the mid-2010s, Mr. Weiss has been dedicated to his physical rehabilitation while continuing to operate his businesses in spite of his limitations.
Beyond his primary responsibilities, Mr. Weiss has participated in numerous efforts outside of his immediate circles. A past board member for the AHRC and Looking Forward, he has similarly contributed to The Buoniconti Fund over the years as a fundraiser, board member and advocate for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. He has also been involved with a several fundraising campaigns for the arts and children’s services, and has been additionally active as the co-founder of the Barton G. Weiss Kids Hear Now Foundation, through which he partners with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine to help restore the hearing of hundreds of deaf children and adults through the Cochlear Implant Program since 2009. He has excelled with his written works as well, having authored “The Big Dish: Recipes to Dazzle and Amaze from America’s Most Spectacular Restaurant” for Rizzoli in 2014. Mr. Weiss has also thrived with Barton G. Events, developing, executing and catering a number of live events and entertainment through which he implements his unique and visionary thought process.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Weiss has accrued various accolades throughout his career. As a testament to his stellar work as a restaurateur, his businesses have obtained such recognitions as The Best Restaurant in South Florida, a Michelin Star and a Michelin Award. Celebrated among the Up-and-Coming Best by Entrepreneur Magazine, he has been further featured in many other esteemed publications, including The New York Times, Forbes, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Departures, Time, and The Robb Report. A guest judge on “Top Chef” and “Giada de Laurentiis’s Behind the Bash,” Mr. Weiss has likewise appeared on ABC’s “Nightline” as well as programs on CNN and CNBC.
Attributing his success to the high standards that he sets for himself as well as his dedication to achieving his goals, Mr. Weiss began his career as a professional ice skater, competing nationally before being inspired to enter the costume and design industry. Creating costumes for celebrities, he subsequently entered the textile industry, designing clothing for the likes of Bloomingdale’s, Barney’s and Saks Fifth Avenue. He also owned an entertainment company for a decade prior to relocating to Miami in 2000. Looking toward the future, Mr. Weiss hopes to continue rehabilitating himself back to health while thriving in his present pursuits as a restaurateur and an event planner.
