Stephanie J. Shannon, founder and chief executive officer at Michigan Women Veterans’ Empowerment, author, and speaker, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business and community development.
With 30 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Shannon has excelled as founder and chief executive officer at Michigan Women Veterans’ Empowerment since 2015. She began her career as a social worker, substitute teacher, instructor, educator, and trainer with Business Operations, Michigan from 1999 to 2008. Concurrently, she found success as founder and chief executive officer of Stepeze Inc. from 1999 to 2009. She was active as a social services specialist with the Department of Human Services in the State of Michigan from 2003 to 2008.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Shannon pursued an education at Grand Rapids Community College where she earned an associate of arts in fashion merchandising and business in 1989. She concluded her studies at Grand Valley State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in psychology in 1996. She became an ordained and licensed pastor in 2007.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Shannon has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She served as a pastor with the Battling the Storm Within Ministries. She found success with her written works “Battling the Storm Within” in 2014 and “Our Voices United: Women Veterans Break Silence” in 2016, which she co-authored. She contributed to Jay Enterprise, LLC as an author, speaker, and veteran advocate at Jay Enterprise, LLC since 2013. In the United States Army and Army Reserves, she served as a sergeant and non-commissioned officer E-5 from 1989 to 1998, including a deployment during Operation Desert Storm – Desert Shield, also known as the Persian Gulf War, from 1990 to 1991.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Shannon has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was named to the MLive Women Who Shape the State in 2023 and presented with the National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, and the 425th Transportation Brigade Combat Patch.
