Michael J. Slade, owner of Mslade LLC DBA MoBay Island Cuisine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the food service industry.
With nearly 10 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Slade has excelled as owner of Mslade LLC, doing business as MoBay Island Cuisine, since 2015. The restaurant specializes in Jamaican and American cuisine, with a menu that includes oxtail, curry goat, stewed beef, pot roast, pepper steak, jerk pork, fried chicken, spicy beef, curry chicken patties, and more. In his role, he is responsible for the paperwork, payroll, taxes, and financial reporting of the business. He began his career with the Postal Service. Before embarking on his professional path, he pursued an education and completed college coursework.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Slade remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise, including as a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He attributes his success to the professionalism of his staff. He considers the restaurant’s successful launch and ongoing operation, which has maintained a 4.5 out of 5-star rating for eight years, as his most notable accomplishment. This achievement serves as a testament to his exceptional leadership and management skills, his dedication to providing high-quality service and cuisine to his patrons, and his ability to maintain a consistently high standard of quality in all aspects of the business.
Mr. Slade’s deep appreciation for Jamaican cuisine was developed at the young age of 16. In 1980, he began his culinary career working at The Golden Dragon in Kingston, Jamaica, where he cooked for members of Parliament, including the governor-general and prime minister. He later developed a great appreciation for international cuisines, including Chinese food, in which he cultivated expertise at Master Chef Restaurant, and Italian food, in which he trained at Town House Restaurant in Montego Bay.
Mr. Slade has experienced great success and acclaim in the culinary world due in no small part to working with Chef Spence, who has prepared food at such establishments as the Colorado Springs Ski Resort at Steamboat Sheraton, Mackinac Island in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the Homestead Resort in Hot Spring Virginia, and Heritage Collection on Hilton Head Island. He also won various international cooking competitions. In the immediate future, Mr. Slade intends to expand his restaurant and possibly start franchising.
