To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Shell pursued an education at St. Petersburg College, where he completed premedicine coursework in 1994. In addition to his plumbing license, he obtained his air conditioning contractor’s license and a building contractor’s license from the Cam Tech School of Construction in 1997. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Shell earned a private pilot’s license and instrument endorsement from King Schools between 2010 and 2011.
Beyond his primary responsibilities, Mr. Shell has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his immediate circles. Since 2018, he has contributed to various local law firms and insurance companies in Florida as an expert witness for investigating claims relating to plumbing. He was likewise invited as a public speaker for a number of insurance companies. In 2006, Mr. Shell and his company was featured on an episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” on ABC.
In addition to his vocation, Mr. Shell remains associated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has maintained his involvement with the Florida Insurance Fraud Education Committee. Moreover, Mr. Shell has been affiliated with the National Federation of Independent Business and the Florida Association of Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors (FAPHCC).
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Shell has accrued several accolades throughout his career. From 2018 to 2022, Tom Shell Plumbing Inc. was recognized with the Gold, Silver and Bronze ratings by Best of the Bay: Plumbing Contractors. The aforementioned company was subsequently honored as the Best Plumbing Contractor in the State in 2023, which he cites as a highlight of his career. Furthermore, Tom Shell Plumbing Inc. was celebrated as the Best Plumbing Company in the Tampa Bay Area.
Prior to embarking upon his professional path, Mr. Shell desired a career in medicine, hoping to garner a medical doctorate despite his reticence to working with blood. However, working in his family’s plumbing business, which had been established in 1979, allowed him to realize how qualified he was in the field, and he eventually spearheaded the company himself following his father’s retirement in 2004. Outside of his plumbing and construction work, he is incredibly proud of his efforts as a father, having raised five wonderful daughters. Looking toward the future, Mr. Shell hopes to maintain the outstanding level of reliability, longevity, and service synonymous with Tom Shell Plumbing Inc. while meeting the demand for skilled labor in his region.
