With nearly two decades of experience, Mr. Roel has built a distinguished career in journalism. He has served as the president of Roel Resources LLC since 2006, where he focuses on promoting successful agents, aging strategies, and various aspects of family caregiving and retirement planning. His professional background includes roles as senior project manager at The City University of New York from 2015 to 2018 and real estate and retirement planning editor at Newsday from 1998 to 2005. Additionally, he has hosted the radio show “45 Forward” on Voice America Talk Radio Network since 2021 and authored “The Caregiving Navigator: How to Plan, What to Do, and Where to Turn When Caring for Your Aging Loved Ones. And Yourself” in 2023. His previous editorial roles included deputy national editor from 1994 to 1999, deputy business editor from 1992 to 1994, and special writer at Newsday Inc. in 1987. He also dedicates his time as a community educator for the Alzheimer’s Association, a board member of Age-Friendly Glen Cove, and a member of the Senior Umbrella Network and Gray Panthers NYC. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has been recognized with the Volunteer of the Year Award from the National Aging in Place Council in 2022, the Organizer of the Year Award from AARP in 2022, and several journalism awards. Laying a solid educational foundation for his successes, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature from Yale University in 1973 and a Master of Arts in communications from the University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School for Communication in 1981.

Reflecting on his path, Mr. Sacasa transitioned from a long and impactful career in journalism, primarily at Newsday, to independent writing and editing around 2005. He founded Roel Resources LLC and engaged in diverse writing, editing, and research projects, including with the City University of New York. When a key individual at CUNY had to step away due to health reasons, he temporarily assumed a full-time role there for three years while continuing to manage Roel Resources LLC. He takes great pride in his notable accomplishment as a newspaper reporter, where he excelled in bringing important issues to light.

Mr. Roel attributes his success to his expertise as a highly skilled writer and editor, with his professional training and deep understanding of the craft being central to his achievements. His strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively have also played a significant role. Additionally, he has benefited from learning from many exceptional leaders throughout his career. Looking ahead, he hopes to bring issues and resources related to aging into the mainstream, aiming to highlight and address the often-unfortunate attitudes toward aging in society.
