Dr. Mendez is a retired business owner who launched Salsa Mendez in 1995, a Spokane, Valley-based food business he managed alongside his wife for over 20 years. Quickly garnering popularity for his products, he landed contracts on the shelves of stores throughout the region. Managing the business independently, without the help of employees, he delivered all his products throughout multiple retail stores in Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho and Western Montana, acquiring over 50 accounts and approximately five supermarket chains. Since being acquired by a new owner, Salsa Mendez has taken on a new label, but the ingredients for his salsa products remain the same.
Besides his fruitful salsa business, Dr. Mendez enjoyed teaching higher education at a local college as an adjunct professor for several years. He also became a distinguished writer, having authored his first book, “Tropical Heat” in 2018. The romance adventure novel was released on Amazon.com. Dr. Mendez intends to pen his next book soon.
Highly educated, Dr. Mendez received a Bachelor of Arts in geography and Chicano studies and a master’s degree in history. Continuing his education, he garnered a Doctor of Philosophy in Latin American Studies from Washington State University in 1994. A lifelong learner, Dr. Mendez attributes much of his success to his passion for education. He also notes his wife for her unwavering support and encouragement throughout his career. In light of his accomplishments as the owner of Salsa Mendez, Dr. Mendez received much positive feedback from satisfied customers and was featured in a local newspaper on three occasions, highlighting the business and what it had to offer. Salsa Mendez also won a First Place Award at a Pasco, Washington, festival in its first year of operation, marking the beginning of a successful venture.
