Mr. Baca, an esteemed leader in engineering, has been serving as the president of White Rook Consulting LLC in Kalamazoo, Michigan, since 2019. Specializing in medical device quality systems consulting, he leverages over 35 years of relevant expertise in the medical device industry to provide clients with his expertise. Mr. Baca’s knowledge of quality and regulatory affairs, risk management, and product development, as well as his experience with Class I, II and III FDA and ISO-regulated devices and multi-plant and multinational quality operations, have been pivotal to his success.

Having begun his career in 1981, Mr. Baca was employed by Johnson & Johnson Services Inc. in various quality positions for over 20 years. In 2005, Medtronic hired him as the vice president of quality assurance cardiac rhythm disease management before being named as the senior director of released products quality, technical services, patient services and patient care for Medtronic Neuromodulation from 2006 to 2010. Mr. Baca was then recruited by Stryker Instruments, where he spent the remainder of his career in this sector as the vice president of quality clinical and regulatory affairs between 2010 and 2017.

A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1976, Mr. Baca received a Bachelor of Science in engineering with a minor in mathematics. Beyond his formal education, he holds certifications as a Malcolm Baldridge criteria assessor and a process excellence green belt through Johnson & Johnson Services Inc., as a quality engineer through the American Society for Quality, and in design controls and risk management through Greenlight Guru. Mr. Baca also completed the strategic planning and implementation course at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in 2005, the global leaders program at Medtronic in 2006, and the executive leadership course at Harvard Business School, Harvard University, in 2011.

Following his bachelor’s degree, Mr. Baca began serving his country in the United States Army, serving from 1976 to 1981. He subsequently completed a tenure in the U.S. Army Reserve between 1981 and 1994. His military experience taught him the value of hard work, leadership and discipline.

As a testament to his commitment to his industry, Mr. Baca is a member of the American Society for Quality. He is also a member of Greenlight Guru, Zeeva and Generis. His professional commitments are complemented by his community involvement as a volunteer junior achievement speaker for Habitat for Humanity International and through volunteer work serving meals to the homeless through The Gospel Mission. Mr. Baca also generously supports the West Point Association of Graduates and the United Cerebral Palsy Association.

Over the past 30 years, Mr. Baca has been recognized with various accolades highlighting his achievements. He received a Premier Excellence Award from Johnson & Johnson Services Inc. in 1995, the Star of Excellence Award from Medtronic in 2009, the Junipero Serra Award from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers in 2009, a Lifetime Master Achiever Award for Quality Excellence from Stryker Instruments in 2017, and, among others, the Lifetime Legacy Award for Regulatory Affairs and Clinical Sciences from Stryker Instruments in 2017.

Mr. Baca credits his achievements to his upbringing and the foundational values instilled by his parents, particularly the importance of honesty. His time at the U.S. Military Academy West Point also profoundly influenced his future. Mr. Baca aims to continue contributing meaningfully to the medical device community, which has provided for him throughout his career. He also intends to provide mentorship to others because he believes it is an excellent way to share his knowledge and experience and help them during their journey to success.
