Building the company from scratch with no initial capital, he worked diligently alongside his business partner, Donnie Mobley, who owns 49% of the business. He credits Mr. Mobley’s technical expertise as a significant factor in their achievements. Additionally, he notes their success to their loyal and experienced team.
Before founding Performance Electrical Contracting, Mr. Asselin honed his skills as a project manager at Adkins Electric Inc. from 2010 to 2014. During this time, he developed a keen understanding of project management and estimation, which would later prove invaluable in his entrepreneurial endeavors. Mr. Asselin also worked at Millennium Electrical Contractors between 1999 and 2010, where he served as a project manager, estimator, foreman and electrician. This extensive experience provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the electrical trade.
Mr. Asselin’s early career began as an electrical apprentice at Whitehead/Equity Electric in 1996, followed by his role as an electrician at Houston Stafford Electric that same year. His professional path also included a unique stint as a guitar tech, bass tech and stage manager for Cold Official from 1997 to 1999. This period allowed him to explore his passion for music while gaining valuable insights into teamwork and logistics.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Asselin is actively involved in industry-related organizations, such as the Northeast Florida Builders Association since 2014 and the National Fire Protection Association since 2023. He also became a member of the International Alarm Federation and Associated Builders and Contractors in 2025. These affiliations reflect Mr. Asselin’s commitment to staying informed about industry trends and standards.
Mr. Asselin’s educational background began with a diploma from York High School in 1989, followed by coursework in industrial electricity at Southern Maine Community College. Highly qualified in his field, he obtained numerous certifications that underscore his expertise. These include a contractor’s license and a journeyman electrician certification in Duval County, Florida, Fire Alarm Systems Agent certification, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina state licensure, and master electrician certifications in Clay County, Florida, Saint Johns County, Florida, and Duval County, Florida.
Mr. Asselin’s civic involvement includes affiliation with organizations, such as Murray Hill Theater SSA, as well as local community projects. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded Best Subcontractor in 2016, reflecting his commitment to excellence both professionally and personally. Eager for the future, Mr. Asselin is preparing to complete a leadership course offered by Crestcom. His goal is to significantly expand his business while enhancing his overall well-being.
