Mr. Hinton is a recognized leader in his field, currently serving as the owner of Gomer’s Fine Wine and Spirits since 2017. Under his leadership, the business has earned significant recognition in the Kansas City area. Mr. Hinton’s stewardship reflects his comprehensive understanding of the beverage industry, which spans experience at every level of the supply chain, from distributor to supplier and retailer.
Located in Kansas City, Missouri, Gomer’s Fine Wine and Spirits offers a large selection of wine, beer and spirits. Considered a top choice among wine stores in the area, the store offers both favorites and rarer bottles for connoisseurs. Meanwhile, Gomer’s beer selection spans locally brewed craft beers to domestic and international beers. Additionally, Gomer sells a large section of spirits, including premium bourbons, whiskeys, tequilas and more. Beyond the storefront, The Ed “Gomer” Moody Tasting Room is a place where patrons can explore a variety of beverages.
Before acquiring Gomer’s Fine Wine and Spirits, Mr. Hinton built a distinguished career in wine and spirits distribution and sales management. His journey began in 1988 when he joined Missouri’s largest liquor distributor as a wine salesperson. Demonstrating a keen aptitude for both sales and operations, he quickly advanced to wine manager and then to operations management for the entire state. Over several years, Mr. Hinton implemented significant improvements in operational efficiency before returning to sales as a sales manager in 1991. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between warehouse and sales teams, organizing events such as golf tournaments to foster teamwork and camaraderie.
Mr. Hinton’s professional trajectory continued its upward momentum as he transitioned into supplier roles, initially managing four states. His dedication and leadership led to his appointment as the first regional director, where he oversaw more than 15 states across the central United States. Notably, Mr. Hinton’s original four-state territory was never backfilled, resulting in dual responsibilities for both regions and direct management of five market managers. This accomplishment stood as a testament to his work ethic and ability to excel under demanding circumstances.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Hinton spent five years at Nabisco after graduating from college. It was during this period that he discovered the lucrative potential of the beverage industry through a roommate who worked for a liquor distributor. This realization would shape Mr. Hinton’s future path.
Mr. Hinton is an alumnus of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1978. While attending university, he was a collegiate baseball player and distinguished himself by achieving all-conference, all-district and all-regional honors. Despite initially being one of 80 candidates vying for a spot on the team, he persevered and earned significant athletic recognition. In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. Hinton completed Dale Carnegie certificates, further enhancing his communication and leadership skills.
In light of his professional accomplishments in the industry, Mr. Hinton was recognized with a Best of the Best of Liquor Store award. He credits much of his career success to his college baseball coach, whose energetic leadership and unique approach to motivation left a lasting impression on him. Additionally, Mr. Hinton’s accomplishments have stemmed from his demonstrated resilience, adaptability and an unwavering commitment to excellence throughout his career, qualities that have defined both his professional achievements and personal milestones. Looking ahead, he intends to pass on the legacy of Gomer’s Fine Wine and Spirits by entrusting its future stewardship to his son.
