Mr. Perry’s journey into the field was shaped early on by listening to his mother teach tax preparation classes in their family home. This formative experience inspired him to pursue a path dedicated to helping others navigate complex tax matters.
Throughout his career at Books, Taxes & More, Mr. Perry has handled numerous challenging cases that underscore his dedication to client outcomes. Among these was a case involving a single mother who faced over $250,000 in state sales tax liabilities due to prior misadvice. Through persistent negotiation with the Georgia Department of Revenue over five months, Mr. Perry secured an agreement that reduced her monthly payments to a manageable level and eliminated $70,000 in penalties and interest, an achievement he regards as one of his most meaningful.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in general engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1981, Mr. Perry served in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 2002. His military tenure included more than 10 years of active duty and culminated at Fort Bliss near El Paso, Texas. The discipline and perseverance developed during Mr. Perry’s service have been instrumental throughout his professional life.
Following his military retirement in October 2002, Mr. Perry explored several career avenues before returning to his passion for tax work. Recognizing the need for specialized knowledge in this dynamic field, he completed a master’s degree in accounting from Grand Canyon University in 2014. Although he considered pursuing a certified public accountant credential, Mr. Perry ultimately chose the enrolled agent path to focus exclusively on federal taxation and taxpayer advocacy, a distinction he values deeply.
Mr. Perry’s professional standing is further demonstrated by his role as the president of the Atlanta chapter of the Georgia Association of Enrolled Agents Inc., where he advocates for high standards within the profession. He also holds multiple certifications relevant to modern tax practice, including advanced crypto tax expert from the Crypto Tax Academy, QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor from Intuit Inc., enrolled agent credential from the IRS and certified tax representation consultant from Tax Rep Network LLC.
A strong sense of civic responsibility complements Mr. Perry’s professional pursuits. He serves as a finance officer, effectively chief financial officer, for American Legion Post 233 in Loganville, Georgia, where he strives to leave the organization well-positioned for future success. Additionally, for more than 30 years, Mr. Perry has volunteered with Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America), fostering leadership skills among youth while achieving the rare Eagle Scout double legacy distinction with both sons attaining Eagle Scout rank as well.
As a leader in his industry, Mr. Perry regularly contributes articles to industry publications. Widely recognized for his expertise, he has been featured in several professional magazines and, under his leadership, Books, Taxes & More was named Best Accounting Firm in Gwinnett County for 2025.
