With 45 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Baker has cultivated a career of excellence as a business owner. Since 2019, he has operated as the owner of Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl, where he oversees daily business operations and ice cream production. Fueled by his love of ice cream, Mr. Baker has been working with the business since 1977, when he originally joined as a dishwasher. Since joining the team, he has also held positions as a clerk, an assistant manager, and a manager.
Originally founded in 1948 in Zanesville, Ohio, by Jack Hemmer and Tom Mirgon, the small restaurant is well regarded for its wonderful selection of homemade ice cream products and comfort foods. Working directly under Mr. Mirgon, Mr. Baker learned the ins and outs of the business. Alongside his other duties, he is currently responsible for supplying almost 97% of the business’ ice cream. Since joining the company, Mr. Baker has produced over 800,000 gallons of ice cream.
As part of his vocational journey, Mr. Baker pursued a formal education, completing coursework in accounting at Muskingum Area Technical College. Over the course of his career, he has largely attributed his success to his dedicated work ethic, which was instilled in him by his parents. In light of his fulfilling career, he is notably proud to have had his business featured as the number one ice cream spot in a national newspaper and to have successfully maintained his business throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
