Robert R. Sutherland, Owner and Operator at McDonald’s, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in restaurant management.
For five decades, Mr. Sutherland has excelled as an entrepreneur with major success in operating several fast-food chains, where he has notably employed 85,000 individuals. Desiring to further his career within the restaurant management industry, Mr. Sutherland steadily advanced the ranks of success and currently owns 10 McDonald’s restaurants.
Having served with the U.S. military from 1966 to 1972, Mr. Sutherland fought in the Vietnam War and obtained the G.I. Bill in order to pursue higher education. He later graduated from the University of Colorado in 1975. He attributes his success to the techniques he obtained in the military to manage his employees. In a career filled with highlights, Mr. Sutherland has most enjoyed witnessing his employees grow professionally. With this sentiment, he is proud to have watched his former employees utilize their McDonald’s experiences as a foundation for their burgeoning careers as physicians and educators.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mr. Sutherland is constantly humbled by his dedication to his wife, with whom he has been married for nearly 50 years. Driven by a love for his family and community, as well as his faith in God, he intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career. Mr. Sutherland’s mentor and figure of inspiration was his “Uncle Bob,” who was a surgeon. The advice that he can offer the next generation of industry professionals would be that life is not free and he does not believe in entitlements.
