Title: Sewing Business Owner
Location: Boaz, Alabama, United States
Beverly Jean Head, of Boaz, Alabama has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who for her dedication, achievements and leadership in teaching and entrepreneurship.
In 1961, Ms. Head obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. She obtained a Master of Science degree inGuidance and Counseling from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1972.
Ms. Head prospered as a Home Economics teacher for more than three decades until her retirement in 1993. During this time she began her “sewing business,” making draperies, pillows, bedskirts, duvets, valances and roman shades for customers. Presently, she still produces various projects for her customers.
The driving force for Ms. Head’s success was her desire to succeed, as well as to help people, which she believed could only be fulfilled through teaching. She always wanted to help young girls and boys live productive lives when they start their homes and careers. She felt teaching them the skills through Home Economics classes would be the best way to accomplish her aspirations and establish her legacy.
Following her retirement, Ms. Head was elected to the Boaz City Council and served from 1997 to 2001. During her tenure, she helped secure a new building for the disabled citizens of Boaz and the whole county. She had a staff who worked with the clients. There were contracts they worked on which trained them work ethic and to be able to hold jobs in their communities.
Following her husband’s death in 2013, Ms. Head has organized bus trips for senior citizens. This has become a much sought after therapeutic experience for those who go on the trips. For some, it is the best way for them to be able to travel.
Now in her 80’s, and her “empty nest” years, Ms. Head considered her title and crown Ms. Super Senior Alabama in 2021-22 as her most notable achievement. The title is recognized as helping older ladies find their worth in the later years of life. Ms. Head is determined to stay healthy and active so she can continue her mission, “helping others” achieve their goals.
