Torrey Pines Smith

Title: Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Company: Endiatx
Location: Hayward, California, United States

Torrey Pines Smith, the co-founder and chief executive officer of Endiatx, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of microrobotics.

Drawing on more than 15 years of experience in his chosen field, Mr. Smith has distinguished himself as the co-founder and chief executive officer of Endiatx, a medical equipment supplier based in Hayward, California. Specializing in microrobotics, the company has sought to serve as a pioneer in the diagnostic and interventional medicine industry through the use of its Pillbot, a multivitamin-sized robot rigged with a camera that is capable of navigating the human body via four pump jets. Since its inception in 2019, Endiatx has earned distinction by reducing months of hospital visits to only a few hours of telemedicine.

Outside of his work at Endiatx, Mr. Smith also serves as the principal founder of Sextant, an international art collective that displays large-scale works of science and engineering on behalf of the public. Having begun as a theme camp at Burning Man in 2013, the project continued to feature at the event until 2018, after which Mr. Smith and his personnel pivoted their focus toward microrobotics. He previously worked as a research and development engineer at several medical equipment providers, including AEGEA Medical Inc., AtheroMed Inc., Ensure Medical Inc. and Cordis Endovascular.

Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Smith sought a formal education at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering in 2005. To remain aware of subsequent developments in the field, he has maintained his membership with the Founder Institute, an American business incubator and startup launch program. Having achieved the status of a top graduate, he is most proud to have served as a mentor for the institute in his own right. Likewise, Mr. Smith was honored with a Healthcare Leadership Award for his manifold accomplishments in the field.

Among his most cherished accomplishments, Mr. Smith was gratified to have had his art featured at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in 2018. In accounting for his success, he largely credits his ability to persevere, despite the obstacles he has faced. Looking toward the future, he aspires to oversee a more widespread rollout of the Pillbot technology, particularly during endoscopy procedures.
