After completing her medical doctorate and residency at Kunming Medical University in China and later while working for more than a decade as a research associate at UMass Chan Medical School in Massachusetts, Dr. Li established Tea Tell Truth in 2018 in West Palm Beach, Florida, to honor her lifelong love for tea. Beforehand, her mother, who already owned a tea business in China, would bring her tea and explain its health benefits. Dr. Li then began sharing tea with friends in the United States and now, through her company, can impart some of her own medical knowledge about its positive nutritional effects. While running her business, she travels extensively and visits wellness centers in neighboring communities, encouraging people to drink tea to help improve their mental and physical health, for example. Dr. Li also returns to China to help tea farmers achieve better lives.
Dr. Li believes that with today’s fast-paced and stressful lifestyles, spending time brewing loose tea leaves will help connect individuals with their inner selves. Working directly with organic tea farmers and tea masters, Tea Tell Truth specializes in providing fine, hand-crafted pu’er tea from her hometown of Yunnan, China, which she promotes as the birthplace of tea and tea-drinking traditions. Pu’er tea is high-quality and healthy because it becomes dark through brewing with post-fermented tea leaves, unlike most other dark teas. Fermentation, Dr. Li says, significantly improves its health-related advantages. The company also sells black tea, white tea, green tea from Yunnan, cold brew, and teaware.
Passionate about sharing her knowledge, history, and culture, Dr. Li has been featured on WPBT South Florida PBS television. She and her team at Tea Tell Truth regularly bring people together by hosting events, including mindfulness sessions, tai chi, blending classes, art lessons, history courses, tea processing, Zen dance ceremonies, and tastings for the restaurant and hotel staff. Attributing her success to her personal growth and helping other people, in the years to come Dr. Li wants to become an international teacher of mindfulness as it relates to tea from Yunnan.
