Karl Shallowhorn, MS, CASAC, Director of Youth Programs with Mental Health Advocates of WNY and President and Founder of Shallowhorn Consulting LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in consulting and mental health advocacy.

As the director of youth programs for Mental Health Advocates of WNY since 2021, Mr. Shallowhorn serves on the nonprofit organization’s leadership team, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Youth Support Program. He coaches, mentors and supervises a team of youth peer advocates and leads weekly youth peer advocate team meetings to share program updates, school scheduling and strategies. Mr. Shallowhorn also serves as a liaison for school districts and collaborates with the executive director, development director and grant writer to seek grant opportunities.

Alongside his role with Mental Health Advocates of WNY, Mr. Shallowhorn has found success as the president and founder of Shallowhorn Consulting LLC since 2020. He has also contributed as a radio host and producer for Mindful Music with 88.7 FM WBFO, part of the Western New York Public Broadcasting Association, since 2023. He is a contributing writer to BP Magazine with Everyday Health Inc. and a radio host for 91.3 FM WBNY with the State University of New York’s (SUNY) Buffalo State University.

To prepare for his professional success, Mr. Shallowhorn completed coursework at Kettering State University and SUNY University at Buffalo. He matriculated at SUNY Buffalo State University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in broadcasting in 1987. In 1998, Mr. Shallowhorn graduated from SUNY Buffalo State University with a master’s degree in student personnel administration. Alongside his formal degrees, he is a credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor with the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports.

Among his professional achievements, Mr. Shallowhorn is proud of being a speaker at TEDxBuffalo and achieving a 4.0 grade point average for his master’s studies while simultaneously working full time. For his excellence, he has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including an Individual Advocacy Award from the United Church of Christ Mental Health Network in 2021 and the William B. Hoyt Award for Advocacy from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services in 2020. In 2018, Mr. Shallowhorn received an Unsung Hero Award from the Mary B. Talbert Civic and Cultural Club, and in 2017 he received a Men of Integrity Award from Utopian Euphoria LLC. In his spare time, he enjoys music, collecting vinyl records, cycling, and spending time with his family and friends.
