Before embarking on his professional path, he pursued an education at Spicer Memorial College of Pune, India, earning a Bachelor of Arts in theological studies in 1988. He continued his studies at Andrews University, graduating with a Master of Arts in theological studies in 1991. He obtained a Doctor of Divinity at Howard University in 1993 before completing his academic efforts at Washington Adventist University and accrued a Master of Business Administration in 2022.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Raj has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was presented with the White House’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the Executive Office of the President in 2022. He attributes his success to his upbringing, family support, and commitment to what he does.
Dr. Raj arrived in the United States with only a hundred dollars and nowhere to go. Despite holding a master’s degree, he could only manage to secure employment at a gasoline station that paid him three dollars an hour, and he struggled with homelessness for a time. He had a desire to pursue a doctoral program in theology and enrolled at the Howard School of Divinities while continuing to work at the station. He faced criticism from classmates and some professors and was told that he did not fit in. However, he outperformed his classmates and began cleaning offices for an extra income.
Dr. Raj eventually incorporated his business in 1997, and it became a successful company with 120 employees and five million in revenue. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, it ranked among the top ten companies in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. He invested his earnings from his cleaning services into real estate and established Raj Properties LLC to safeguard his assets. The company specializes in facilities maintenance and fumigation as well as rental and property management services for his rental properties as well as his personal properties.
