Anthony Berghela, owner of Romo’s Pizza, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in entrepreneurship.
Mr. Berghela’s journey toward Romo’s Pizza stemmed from a bakery job that ignited his passion for the food industry. Also motivated by childhood memories in his uncle’s pizzeria, he seized the opportunity to purchase a struggling pizza business in 2009, reimagining it as Romo’s Pizza with the help of his family. His relentless pursuit of perfection led him to absorb knowledge from renowned pizza makers and invest considerable effort in promoting Romo’s through local sports sponsorships and events, transforming it into a cherished local eatery.
Mr. Berghela’s dedication to honing his craft led him to attend the Pizza Expo in Las Vegas, where he immersed himself in diverse classes and discussions. His encounter with award-winning pizza chef Tony Gemigniani at the Expo inspired him to enroll at the International School of Pizza in San Francisco in 2015. There, Mr. Berghela delved into various styles, dough variations, sauces, and oven techniques, fostering a vision to introduce these innovations to his hometown. Guided by Mr. Gemigniani’s mentorship, he diligently honed and mastered the newfound pizza styles.
In 2018, Mr. Berghela delved into competitive pizza making, participating in events like the Caputo Cup in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, securing top-10 finishes each time. Since its establishment, Romo’s Pizza has consistently received nominations or awards for best pizza in numerous local publications and on social media platforms. His exceptional achievements in competitions, including world championship rankings, firmly established Romo’s as a top pizza destination, winning multiple accolades and recognition from local media. Beyond crafting mouthwatering pizzas, Mr. Berghela engages in extensive volunteer work for community causes, contributing to breast cancer awareness and supporting various charitable activities.
Mr. Berghela unwavering success is attributed to his upbringing, inspired by his hardworking mother, aiming to provide a better life for his own family. One standout moment in his career was expanding Romo’s three times over 14 years and preparing for a second location in Voorheesville, New York. Looking ahead, Mr. Berghela envisions further business expansion and aims to foster a lasting legacy for his family while maintaining Romo’s reputation. His commitment echoes Tony Romo’s motto, “respect the craft,” showcased not only in his business growth but also in naming his pizzeria in honor of his beloved English bulldog, Romo. With family members actively involved in the business, Mr. Berghela continues to carve a successful path while nurturing his greatest joy—being a devoted father to his daughters, Gracelyn Faith and Antonia Marie.
