Kathy Forbes, owner of Professional Dental Seminars, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dental health care.
With over five decades of experience, Ms. Forbes has built a successful career in dentistry and dental health education. Since 1991, she has been the owner of Professional Dental Seminars, where she teaches and discusses topics such as treating oral diseases, treatment planning, CDT code, and providing consulting services. She has also been a coding coach at The Dental Hygiene Coding Coach since 1990. Her experience includes roles as dental hygiene faculty at Concorde Career Colleges from 2017 to 2021, clinical instructor at Pacific Northwest Dental Hygiene Institute, from 2008 to 2014, and adjunct faculty at Eastern Washington University from 2009 to 2012. Additionally, she served as an adjunct assistant professor in dental hygiene at Pierce College District 11 from 2008 to 2012, a dental hygienist at Campus Pointe Dental with Brian K. Filbert DDS, from 1997 to 2012, and a dental hygienist with William Lubken, DMD, periodontist, from 1990 to 2012. She also worked as a dental hygienist and veterinary assistant at Puyallup Valley Veterinary Clinic from 1995 to 2009, was CDE teaching faculty at the University of Washington from 1987 to 1992, and served as a dental hygiene instructor at Pierce College District 11 from 1984 to 1987 and Shoreline Community College from 1976 to 1984.
Additionally, Ms. Forbes has been a contributor and author for RDH eVillage since 2023, Dentistry Today since 2021, RDH since 2014, and PracticeBooster from 2013 to 2015. She is a member of the ADHA Professional Fellows Program, American Dental Hygienists Association, Washington Dental Hygienists’ Association, and the Alliance of Dental Hygiene Practitioners in Washington State. She also serves as the director of the DentalCodeology Consortium. She also dedicates her time as a dental hygienist with Medical Teams International and Faith Community School and Orphanage, and she has participated in mission trips to Mexico, Honduras, and India. In light of her impressive undertakings, she has been honored with the Sunstar RDH Award of Distinction from Sunstar Suisse S.A. in 2023, the DentalCodeology Consortium Trailblazer Travel Grant from the American Dental Hygienists Association, Institute of Oral Health in 2022, the Presidential Citation Award from the Colorado Dental Hygienists Association in 2017, and the Martha Fales Lifetime Achievement Award from the Washington State Dental Hygienists Association in 2010
Laying a solid educational foundation for these successes, she earned an associate degree in dental hygiene from Clark College in 1972, completed a degree program in dental hygiene at the University of Washington in 1982, and received a Bachelor of Science in occupational education from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, in 1987, where she was on the Dean’s List. She holds RDH licenses in Washington, Oregon, California, and Colorado. She takes pride in her role as a dental hygiene educator, known for her firm yet fair teaching approach. She attributes her success to being a continuous learner and a desire to share her knowledge with colleagues. In the coming years, she aims to make this knowledge-sharing her legacy, mentoring and supporting other hygienists so they can pass it on to others. Her goal is to reach all 50 states, whether through webinars or in-person conferences, to spark curiosity and inspire investigation among hygienists. Currently, she is the only one speaking on this topic nationwide.
