Steve Tullgren, president at Universal Plastics Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in manufacturing.
With five and a half decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Tullgren has built a successful career in manufacturing. He currently excels as president of Universal Plastics Inc., a position he has held since 1969, where he oversees several high-profile projects, supervises all bidding activities, and works closely with estimators and the operations manager to ensure smooth project operations. In addition to his professional role, he dedicates his time to the Board of Directors for the Associated Subcontractors Alliance of Sacramento and is a supporter of Marshall Hospital, sponsor of Boys & Girls Clubs events, and supporter of GiGi’s Playhouse and Studio Martial Arts.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Tullgren’s journey began with Universal Plastics, a company founded by his father in 1967. Initially aspiring to be an architect, he joined the family business at the age of 16, taking on various responsibilities such as deliveries and maintenance. While attending high school and later starting college, he worked 35 hours a week at his father’s business, and eventually, he committed to the company full-time and took over its leadership. He takes great pride in the recognition he has received for his extensive knowledge and the high-quality projects he delivers. Manufacturers and individuals across the U.S. often seek his expertise and guidance when facing challenges or seeking solutions.
Mr. Tullgren attributes his success to unwavering commitment, integrity, and perseverance in serving his company. In the coming years, he plans to reduce his professional commitments and devote more time to travel. He enjoys collaborating with architects, particularly on projects that shape hospitals and airports, and looks forward to continuing to help architects bring their visions to life. His advice to aspiring professionals emphasizes the importance of maintaining a quality-oriented, transparent, and honest approach for long-term success. To his 18-year-old self, he would say that his skills and determination were enough to succeed. In his personal life, he hopes to continue enjoying traveling with family, vacationing with friends, scuba diving, motorcycling, participating in sports, snow skiing, golfing, playing racquetball and pickleball, and engaging in car and go-kart racing.
