Destiny A. King, MA, Owner, Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and Licensed Behavior Analyst at Beauty and the Behavior, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Behavioral Health.
Ms. King, a licensed and board-certified behavior analyst, has owned Beauty and the Behavior LLC in Kentucky since 2023. Specializing in working with children with autism, she conducts assessments and evaluates their needs before writing treatment plans. She also works closely with parents to better understand their children. Additionally, Ms. King contracts with the local hospital to support the children’s outpatient services, such as occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy.
In addition to her role as a behavior analyst, Ms. King manages her practice, which encompasses training and supervising the registered behavior technicians on skill deficits and ethical responsibility. Moreover, she oversees insurance and credentialing, billing, payroll, scheduling and paperwork.
Before launching her company, Ms. King was employed by Bright Behavior LLC as a board-certified behavior analyst in Bowling Green, Kentucky, from 2022 to 2024. Pivoting to therapy, she taught special education for the Warren County Public Schools in Bowling Green, Kentucky, between 2019 and 2022. During her time in the classroom, Ms. King developed a passion for helping children. However, she felt unfulfilled and decided to make a career change, pursuing additional studies and transitioning into business ownership as the founder of LLC, which started from the ground-up by providing in-home services in late 2023.
In preparation for her career, Ms. King received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and learning behavior disorders from Western Kentucky University in 2019 and a master’s degree in applied behavior analysis from Southeast Missouri State University in 2022. Additionally, she received several professional credentials as a licensed and board-certified behavior analyst and Autism Diagnostic Observation System administrator. She is also safety care trained.
Ms. King is active in her professional community as a member of the Association for Behavior Analysis International. This membership allows her to remain at the forefront of her industry while collaborating with others in her field. Ms. King also engages in civil organizations and has generously sponsored events for the American Cancer Society Inc. and trips to Washington, D.C., for local elementary schools.
Since the start of her business, Ms. King has gained tremendous success. Beginning with just $10,000 in savings, she has since hired over 15 staff members. She aims to hire another board-certified behavior analyst to work alongside her, open a clinic and expand to offer interdisciplinary therapies. Ms. King has also drawn success and personal rewards from hosting community events that her company organizes, like the annual Special Needs Egg Hunt, continuously providing quality services and ensuring her staff members are appreciated.
As she prepares for the future of her career in this sector, Ms. King envisions continually advocating for children with autism, raising awareness for this community and ensuring that others understand their potential for positively contributing and integrating into society with the proper support. Inclusion is a huge part of why she does what she does and looks forward to continually making a difference. Ms. King attributes her success thus far to her mother, who inspired her to pursue a career in the behavioral field.
