George Michael Hobbs Jr., President at Inland Construction and Engineering (ICE) Inc. and owner and operator of Panhandle Marina and Boatyard LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in marine transportation.
With three decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Hobbs has built a successful career in marine transportation, specializing in marine construction and civil marine bridges. Since 2020, he has excelled as owner and operator of Panhandle Marina and Boatyard LLC, a full-service marina and boat yard situated in Panama City, Forida, offering a range of services for boat owners, including storage, maintenance, and repair. He has also been the owner of ICE Sheet Metal since 2018 and president of Inland Construction and Engineering Inc., a HUBZone-certified general contracting firm specializing in design and construction services, since 1994. His responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the business, from strategy and planning to execution and management, leading the company in securing contracts with Federal, state and local governments, expanding market share and revenue, and implementing innovative and sustainable practices. He also volunteers at the Chautauqua Institution, a nonprofit educational center and summer resort for adults and youth. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned an associate degree in marine transportation from Gulf Coast State College, earned in 1994, as well as a 500-ton captain’s license.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Hobbs’ passion for construction has been evident from an early age. As a third-generation contractor, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, he developed a fascination with building that began when he constructed his first porch at the age of six, igniting a lifelong passion for the trade. Over the years, he has made significant contributions to the U.S. Coast Guard, securing their first contract and providing vital support at numerous Coast Guard stations along the Gulf Coast and East Coast. His team also played a critical role during emergencies, such as Hurricane Katrina, when they were on-site in Gulfport and New Orleans, assisting with rescue operations before the Coast Guard arrived. He has also supported the U.S. Navy on the East Coast, notably constructing a major pier in North Carolina that serves as a key hub for ammunition transfers, providing extensive contributions to Moorhead City, North Carolina.
Mr. Hobbs attributes his success to the great people he has had the privilege of working with over the years. He believes the key to his achievements is his ability to retain talented employees with low turnover, a crucial factor in the construction industry. He emphasizes treating his team well, ensuring they are equipped to deliver high-quality work while fostering a strong work ethic. The quality of his work sets his company apart, and he is committed to hiring locally and giving back to the community. He also prides himself in his passion for creating value for his clients, partners, and employees, and strives to uphold the highest standards of quality, safety, and ethics. Above all, he values perseverance and the ability to push forward despite challenges. In the coming years, he aims to expand the family business, involving his 22-year-old son, who recently obtained his captain’s license, in the enterprise and potentially establishing a fourth generation in the family business.
