Besides her primary work at Moore Recreation Therapy & Consulting Inc., Tamica has been instrumental in the classroom as an adjunct professor within the gerontology department at American River College in Sacramento, California, since 2019. She enjoys teaching and mentoring the next generation of professionals and reaps significant rewards in this capacity.
Leveraging her robust background in both therapy and higher education, Tamica worked as a recreation therapist for the Department of Corrections for the State of California from 2008 to 2016 and as an adjunct professor in the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration at California State University in Sacramento between 2014 and 2015. Earlier in her career, Tamica was an assistant executive director at Aegis Assisted Living between 2002 and 2005.
Tamica pursued her formal education at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, earning a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in therapeutic recreation and leisure service in 1998 and 1999, respectively. She also obtained her credentials as a certified therapeutic recreation specialist (CTRS) and certified inclusivity assessor. These designations have established her as a highly-qualified figure in her field.
Active in her community, Tamica is a member of the California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics, the California Parks and Recreation Society, and the Texas Recreation and Parks Society. Civically engaged, she enjoys volunteering with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. youth program as well as with various charitable endeavors through her local church.
Recognized for her expertise, Tamica has been invited to speak at several upcoming conferences for city parks and recreation professionals and recreation therapy professionals, where she will share her knowledge of inclusive and adaptive recreation practices and their applications. Tamica attributes her success to pursuing her passions, adhering to her convictions, and demonstrating resilience in the face of rejection. Her expertise in areas such as program development, adaptive and inclusive recreation, and staff training for all ages and disabilities has been instrumental in propelling her career forward.
Enthusiastic about her future ventures, Tamica has several plans that she aims to see to fruition. She is presently developing partnerships with several engineering firms to create additional accessible parks for children and adults with disabilities. She and her husband are also looking into establishing a franchise. This venture would include developing a work program that provides training to support and foster meaningful employment opportunities for adults with disabilities.
