Craig Minor, DNP, Director of Emergency Services at Houston Methodist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Nursing.
Dr. Minor, an established nurse and director of emergency services at Houston Methodist, the health care system’s flagship location, joined the organization in 2024. His high-level position encompasses operationalizing the emergency department for the new ACE Hospital, which is set to open in early 2025. As such, he has been tasked with hiring an entire emergency department staff and establishing a unified team from diverse backgrounds. Among other responsibilities, Dr. Minor is in charge of policy preparation for regulatory requirements for accreditation. His expertise in innovative nursing processes has been pivotal to his career progression.
Excited about his future with the Houston Methodist’s ACE Hospital, Dr. Minor notes that the facility has been dubbed the “hospital of the future” and will be one of the first hospital campuses in the nation fully equipped with WiFi 6. This location will be the only one in its system with such smart technology, which has been developed through its research institute.
Named to his position after serving as an emergency services manager at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital from 2022 to 2024, Dr. Minor successfully managed a busy emergency department with over 100,000 patients annually. Before joining Houston Methodist, he was the director of critical care and respiratory therapy at Sarah Bush Lincoln between 2021 and 2022. Dr. Minor’s career with the facility began as a critical care registered nurse in 2014 before progressing to other roles, including nursing supervisor from 2018 to 2020 and emergency department patient care leader between 2020 and 2021.
In addition to his primary career endeavors in health care, Dr. Minor was a nursing instructor at Lakeview College of Nursing in Charleston, Illinois, from 2018 to 2020 and a clinical instructor at Western Governors University in Salt Lake City between 2019 and 2022. This classroom experience included teaching associate and bachelor’s level students in clinical and classroom nursing courses.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Minor obtained an associate degree in nursing from Lake Land College, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Western Governors University, and a Master of Science in nursing and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in health care systems leadership from Chamberlain University. He also garnered credentials as a critical care registered nurse and nurse executive through the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
As a dedicated researcher, Dr. Minor published the first research study on blood sampling from midline catheters, demonstrating its safety and reliability compared to standard venipuncture and contributing to developing nursing standards of practice in infusion nursing. He was subsequently invited to present his research as a keynote speaker at the International Nursing Science Conference in Munich.
As a testament to the respect he has earned in the nursing community, Dr. Minor received a 40 Under 40 Emerging Nurse Leaders Award from the Illinois Nurses Foundation in 2022. He was also honored to receive a President’s Award in 2016.
