Christopher Roome, founder at Project InsulNation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements and leadership in Diabetes Advocacy.
Mr. Roome is lauded for his success in entrepreneurship as the founder of Project InsulNation, an organization he established in 2025. Dedicated to empowering individuals with Type 1 diabetes through adventure-based experiences, the initiative offers two- to six-day backpacking trips designed to help participants overcome limiting beliefs and build confidence.
Hosting an upcoming event in late May 2025, Mr. Roome, his co-founder and a group will spend three days and two nights hiking across 32 miles of landscape in the White Mountains in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Pemigawasset Loop Hike is fully booked and currently has an active waitlist, should anyone drop out. The next scheduled trip will be in August 2026. The Tetons Crest Backcountry Camping event will stretch across the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Slots are still available.
Mr. Roome’s personal experience of living with Type 1 diabetes for over 25 years informs his approach, allowing him to connect authentically with those he supports. His commitment to inclusivity is evident in his development of a product that meets the needs of individuals with diabetes while remaining accessible to those facing financial hardship. What distinguishes Mr. Roome is his emphasis on sharing struggles rather than just outcomes, fostering trust among those he seeks to support.
Before this venture, Mr. Roome spent nearly two decades in retail at Costco, culminating in a management position that spanned over five years. Additionally, he garnered experience as an owner and investor in the real estate sector for several years.
Mr. Roome embarked on his professional journey with a strong foundation in education. He graduated from Pequannock Township High School in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, in 2006 before pursuing a degree in exercise physiology at West Virginia University in Morgantown, where he graduated in 2008. Mr. Roome’s academic pursuits continued at the County College of Morris, where he completed coursework in fire science and firefighting in 2011. These educational experiences equipped him with a diverse skill set that has been instrumental in his career.
Actively engaged with organizations as they relate to diabetes, Mr. Roome is affiliated with the American Diabetes Association. Looking ahead, he envisions expanding Project InsulNation into a global movement with simultaneous trips worldwide at varying levels of difficulty. Mr. Roome aims to establish a sponsorship program to fund participation for individuals facing financial hardship and develop partnerships similar to those of organizations such as the American Diabetes Association and Beyond Type One.
Mr. Roome values honesty, trustworthiness and authenticity as foundational principles in both his personal and professional endeavors. He advises others to discover their purpose and align it with their values, transforming work into an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. Through his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment, Mr. Roome continues to make a significant impact within the diabetes community.
