In 2021, Mr. Couper also became the chief executive officer of Trailer Safe USA, a manufacturer and seller of patented heavy equipment track covers. Under his leadership, the company has thrived. The innovative covers are currently being prototyped across various applications, and Mr. Couper is actively lobbying for their adoption into law in Washington.
Aside from these ventures, Mr. Couper owned Cascade Signature Homes LLC from 2019 to 2020 and Aspen Creek Construction between 2010 and 2013. He also succeeded as a certified inspector with Mountain View Home Inspections from 2013 to 2014. Mr. Couper’s career also included hands-on experience as a journey carpenter with Carpenters Union Local 470, starting in 2008.
Mr. Couper began his journey as a business owner in 1996, when he founded Couper Construction with his father and worked as a framing subcontractor. He credits his father, Robert Couper, his original business partner and mentor, as playing a key role in his development and growth as a business owner and entrepreneur. Over the years, Mr. Couper expanded his knowledge to include all aspects of home building. He became fluent in various aspects of the field, from clearing and excavation to the installation of utilities, septic systems and foundations. Additionally, he learned framing, siding, exterior and interior painting, how to install cabinets, do finish carpentry and landscaping.
Mr. Couper’s educational background included coursework at Washington State University and ongoing studies toward an Associate of Arts in biblical studies at AMES Christian University. His academic pursuits have complemented his professional endeavors by providing a strong foundation in critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for his roles in construction and business management.
In addition to becoming a certified inspector, Mr. Couper is certified in green building and wood-destroying organisms. His commitment to sustainable practices and thorough inspections underscores his dedication to quality and safety in construction projects.
Mr. Couper is a member of the Master Builders Association. Beyond his professional life, he is actively involved in civic-minded organizations, reflecting his commitment to community service and global outreach. Mr. Couper volunteers with a small church group, frequently volunteering with World Vision and a local food bank. He also participates in missionary work in India, coaches several of his sons’ youth basketball teams through the Puyallup Recreation Center in Puyallup, Washington, and serves as a volunteer Washington Hunter Education and Safety instructor.
