From 1986 to 2018, he rose to the position of manager of North American quality, where he was responsible for overseeing supply chain management and quality assurance processes at the motorcycle plant. Throughout his tenure at Honda, Mr. Mattix managed numerous crisis projects and contributed to the company’s reputation for quality and operational excellence.
In preparation for his future, Mr. Mattix graduated with an associate degree in business administration as the valedictorian of his class at Marion Technical College in 2004. Subsequently, he received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 2006. These academic achievements provided Mr. Mattix with a solid foundation in business principles and management strategies that have underpinned his career accomplishments.
Today, Mr. Mattix remains active as a member of Phi Delta Lambda, reflecting his commitment to professional development. He is also civically engaged as a member of the host team at Crossroads Church in Mansfield, Ohio, reflecting his dedication to community service and outreach.
Among Mr. Mattix’s most notable achievements was during his tenure at American Honda Motor Company Inc. He was involved in the implementation of an electronic inventory database that revolutionized inventory control during annual build-outs. This initiative reduced excess inventory from millions of dollars to just $8,000, an amount equivalent to parts for half a motorcycle, demonstrating his ability to optimize complex systems and deliver significant cost savings. Additionally, Mr. Mattix led teams tasked with revitalizing distressed production lines facing potential outsourcing by improving productivity nearly 100% through strategic process enhancements rather than increased workloads. His efforts enabled these companies to retain critical operations domestically and improve overall performance.
A recognized expert in product trials, Mr. Mattix credits his success to hard work, effective collaboration, respectful treatment of others and adherence to the golden rule, values instilled by his father during his formative years on the family farm.
