Darya Khankin, Principal of Healthcare Compliance and Risk Management at DEK Consulting Corp., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Healthcare Compliance Operations.

With nearly three decades of experience in the healthcare and life sciences sector, Ms. Khankin has established herself as a leading expert in healthcare compliance operations. In her current capacity at DEK Consulting Corp. since 2024, she provides consultation to medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech and life sciences companies nationwide. Her guidance encompasses navigating complex healthcare laws and regulations, reviewing promotional materials for compliance, collaborating with legal teams on contract reviews, and training employees on essential program elements and privacy laws. Ms. Khankin is also responsible for ensuring that organizations adhere to federal and state regulatory requirements, an area where her expertise is widely sought after by both established firms and emerging startups transitioning from animal studies to first-in-human trials.

Before founding her consulting company, Ms. Khankin served as the head of compliance operations at Radius Health Incorporated in Boston, Massachusetts, from 2022 to 2024. There, she managed compliance functions during a period marked by industry-wide funding challenges and the outsourcing of compliance roles. Recruited from Lilly USA, LLC, Ms. Khankin spent 2020 and 2021 as a senior manager of healthcare compliance in Menlo Park, California, where she oversaw regulatory adherence for a major pharmaceutical entity.

Ms. Khankin’s tenure at Siemens Healthineers AG in Palo Alto, California, spanned from 2016 to 2020. Initially joining as a manager of U.S. transparency reporting for ethical compliance in 2016, she was soon promoted to senior manager of global transparency reporting and ethical compliance. In these roles, Ms. Khankin directed large-scale data collection and analysis efforts in response to evolving regulatory mandates.

Ms. Khankin’s earlier career milestones included serving as a division liaison and group lead for ethics, compliance and government transparency at Abbott in Santa Clara, California, between 2014 and 2016, following her role as group lead and senior analyst from 2012 to 2014. She also held the position of supervisor and senior general ledger accountant for corporate financial reporting at Abbott for five years, starting in 2007.

A defining achievement in Ms. Khankin’s career occurred during her time at Abbott when new Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations required medical device manufacturers to report spending with healthcare professionals and organizations. At a time when neither industry peers nor government officials had clear guidance on how to comply, she became one of the first professionals in the United States to complete this data collection and submission process for a large organization, setting an industry precedent that remains influential today.

Ms. Khankin’s professional journey began with a decade in financial reporting for various companies in the Silicon Valley region of Northern California from 1997 to 2007. During these 10 years, she garnered professional expertise that significantly shaped her future.

Educated at the Russian University of Transport, Ms. Khankin earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1995, which laid the foundation for her analytical approach to complex regulatory issues. She further enhanced her credentials with a certificate in business administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2015. In addition, Ms. Khankin holds a healthcare compliance certification encompassing ethics and compliance, the federal anti-kickback statute, the False Claims Act and transparency from Seton Hall University since 2018. These academic achievements have been instrumental in equipping her with the knowledge necessary to navigate multifaceted legal frameworks across global markets.

Ms. Khankin maintains active membership in several leading professional associations, including the Health Care Compliance Association, AdvaMed, the Bay Area Ethics and Compliance Association, and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. These affiliations reflect her commitment to staying abreast of regulatory developments while fostering collaboration among peers. Ms. Khankin’s expertise is further evidenced by her selection as a keynote speaker and panelist for prominent organizations, such as the American Conference Institute, the CBI division of UBM Life Sciences and Dynamic Global Events. Her insights have contributed significantly to advancing best practices within the field.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ms. Khankin is deeply committed to civic engagement. Since 2022, she has volunteered extensively to support Ukrainian refugees displaced by war, providing practical assistance, such as helping families obtain furniture and necessities, reviewing resumes, offering interview coaching and guiding individuals as they rebuild their careers in the United States.

Throughout her career, Ms. Khankin has received numerous accolades recognizing her excellence in the field. She was honored with the Circle of Excellence award by Varian Medical Systems, Inc., a Siemens Healthineers Company, between 2017 and 2018. At Abbott, Ms. Khankin earned multiple Awards of Excellence in 2012, 2014 and 2016.

Ms. Khankin attributes her success to persistence, leadership amid uncertain regulatory environments and a willingness to take risks when pioneering new solutions within healthcare compliance. She approaches obstacles with determination, viewing them as opportunities for growth rather than deterrents, and credits her mentor at Abbott for inspiring her transformative career path.

Born in rural Siberia in the former Soviet Union, Ms. Khankin moved alone to the United States, where she embraced new challenges without fear or hesitation, a quality that continues to define her professional ethos today. Looking ahead, she intends to expand her professional network while increasing visibility as a speaker within healthcare compliance circles. Ms. Khankin’s goal is to inspire small organizations and early-career professionals to embrace challenges confidently while repositioning compliance as an essential business partner rather than merely an enforcer of rules.
