His journey began on a 450-acre farm in Mid-Missouri, where early exposure to building and mechanics fostered a deep understanding of construction. This hands-on upbringing inspired a lifelong curiosity and technical acumen that would later define Mr. Desmond’s professional path.
In 2021, Mr. Desmond founded Metro One Home Inspection LLC in Kansas City, Missouri, where he has dedicated himself to conducting comprehensive home inspections across more than 500 residential properties annually. His responsibilities include evaluating interior and exterior property components for structural damage or safety hazards, performing mold testing, radon testing, sewer scope inspections and pool inspections, as well as capturing detailed photographic documentation, preparing timely inspection reports and recommending corrective actions for his clients. Additionally, Mr. Desmond is tasked with ensuring regulatory compliance, managing daily operations and maintaining client communications.
Mr. Desmond’s meticulous approach distinguishes him among inspectors throughout the Kansas City region. Known for his thoroughness and attention to detail, qualities often overlooked by others, he has built a reputation for excellence that sometimes leads real estate agents to seek his services privately rather than for their clients due to the rigor he brings to each inspection. Mr. Desmond’s commitment is rooted in safeguarding clients’ investments by identifying risks that could impact their financial well-being.
Commencing his professional career as an education consultant and office manager at Advanced Technology Solutions from 2001 to 2002, Mr. Desmond then gained experience as a carpenter at Pro Construction Services LLC until 2004 and later at Atlantic Union Resources. In 2005, he worked as a carpenter and tile layer for Tiger Tile before joining Jump Oil Company as a computer specialist and project manager between 2005 and 2006. The following year, Mr. Desmond served as a network engineer and computer information technologist II for the State of Missouri.
In 2007, Mr. Desmond joined Cerner Corporation (now Oracle Health), first as a technical support analyst before advancing to project manager until 2011. From there, Mr. Desmond became a project manager II at ADEX CORPORATION in 2011, before taking on the role of technical project and program manager III at Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson in 2013. That same year, he began working with Sprint (now T-Mobile USA Inc.) as a technical project and program manager III until 2016.
Among other progressive roles, Mr. Desmond became data center project manager II at Paige Technologies in 2016. He then operated as a senior project manager for Desmond Consulting Group LLC from 2018 to 2022 while also serving as a senior project manager within the enterprise project management office at UMB Bank between 2018 and 2024.
Mr. Desmond’s expertise culminated with his role as data center program manager for an affiliate of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through SAIC from 2024 to 2025. Throughout all of his positions, he developed broad competencies in construction management, information technology (IT) infrastructure, and large-scale commercial projects, including renovating dormitories and flipping houses, while honing skills in programming, software development and network engineering.
Mr. Desmond pursued higher education at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, earning a Bachelor of Science in computer information systems with a minor in business in 2001. He continued his academic advancement with a Master of Project Management from Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University in Kansas City in 2006. These academic foundations equipped him with both the technical expertise and business insight necessary for success across multiple industries. Notably, during high school, Mr. Desmond excelled as a pole vaulter, setting state records and competing at the national level in the Amateur Athletic Union Track and Field championships. His athletic achievements earned him a college scholarship and provided formative experiences alongside Olympic-level athletes.
In addition to his formal education, Mr. Desmond holds numerous credentials from various organizations, including certified master home inspector, certified home inspector, certified agile leadership credentials, and, among others, recognition as a project management professional. These credentials underscore his commitment to continuous learning and professional excellence.
Memberships with the International Association of Certified Indoor Air Consultants Inc., the Project Management Institute and the National Association of Realtors reflect Mr. Desmond’s ongoing engagement with industry standards and best practices. Beyond professional pursuits, he has contributed to Cerner PowerSpeak IT Toastmasters Club and Toastmasters International and remains committed to volunteer work with the Veterans Community Project.
