With over 50 years of experience, Dr. Ahrenkiel has excelled in semiconductor diagnostics and carrier lifetime diagnostics. Currently serving as the owner and chief technical officer at Lakewood Semiconductors since 2013, he collaborates with government and private companies on a contractual basis. Prior to this role, he held positions as a research professor at the Colorado School of Mines since 2007 and a research fellow emeritus at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory since 1981, alongside being an adjunct professor at the Colorado School of Mines since 1990. His career began at the Eastman Kodak Company from 1964 to 1976, where he contributed to the invention of the digital camera.

Dr. Ahrenkiel pursued his education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, obtaining a PhD in Physics, a master’s degree, and a Bachelor of Science in engineering physics. He also completed coursework in liberal arts at the same institution. Throughout his career, he has been affiliated with various organizations, including serving on the advisory committee at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2005 to 2015. Additionally, he is recognized as a life fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America.

In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Ahrenkiel has received several accolades, including the Alumni of the Year Award from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018. He attributes his success to his dedication to innovation and continuous learning, and he looks forward to contributing to advancements in semiconductor diagnostics and carrier lifetime diagnostics in the coming years. His passion for innovation and commitment to advancing the field are evident in his contributions to material science and research, including his work on high-efficiency space solar cells and novel contactless diagnostic techniques.
