He attributes his success to his unique approach to client relationships, focusing on providing service and communication that clients often feel is lacking with other accounting firms, as well as his dedication to being personable, responsive, and reliable has been integral to his success. Rather than simply aiming to be a trusted advisor, he prioritizes building genuine friendships with his clients.
In the coming years, Mr. Severson aims to expand his business. Once he achieves a certain level of growth, he plans to hire additional staff, explore new revenue sources, and undertake attestation and audit work, particularly focusing on employee benefit plan audits, such as retirement plans. His goal for the next decade is to achieve full automation and establish a sustainable business model, which will allow him to pursue projects and opportunities that align with his passions and values, rather than accepting projects solely for financial reasons. Additionally, he intends to dedicate more time to tax mitigation and long-term tax planning, where he can offer clients valuable assistance over several years. He is also excited about the opportunity to engage in succession planning with clients who will be exiting their businesses. Developing comprehensive succession plans to ensure smooth transitions will be a key focus, helping clients navigate the complexities of passing on their businesses.
