Melodie T. Cochran, chief executive officer at Chayil Maison, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Business Owners for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering and cosmetics.
With nearly a decade of experience, Ms. Cochran has built a successful career in engineering, specializing in programming, entrepreneurship, hair, nails, and cosmetics. She currently excels as the owner and chief executive officer of Chayil Maison Hair Salon, a role she has held since 2017. Her experience also includes serving as an information technologist in the Navigation Systems Division at Northrop Grumman Corporation, where she also worked as a webmaster. Her skills extended into producing “Spooknight” and developing Northrop Grumman’s “WEBSAR” and “Process Champion” projects. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and the National Society of Black Engineers, and she volunteers with His Life Ministries. In light of her impressive undertakings, she earned the Teacher of the Year Award from both Nehemiah Project International Ministries and Le Nouvel Horizon in 2015.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Ms. Cochran earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1985. She is also licensed in cosmetology and holds several certifications, including a Diplomate from the Global Entrepreneurs Institute through La Red Business Network in 2013 and a Certified Enterprise Coach from Nehemiah Project International Ministries in the same year. Additionally, she earned her Diplomate in Biblical Entrepreneurship from Nehemiah Project International Ministries in 2012 and became a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt in 2004. She also earned a Diplomate from the Dream Interpretation School in 1992 and a certificate from the Living Water Bible College Program in 1990.
Reflecting on her path, Ms. Cochran had the unique opportunity to train astronauts and develop software for Air Force One. After years of success in engineering, she transitioned into the business sector, focusing on the nails, hair, and cosmetics industry. Currently, she manages operations in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, where she has built a thriving business. Her decision to enter the cosmetic industry was driven by both financial opportunity and a desire to support emerging entrepreneurs. With capital to invest, she approached her pastor, who connected her with a young couple in need of financial backing and business guidance. Seeing their potential, she provided the support they needed, becoming a partner in their new business. After five years, when the couple pursued different ventures, she took full control of the business and has been successfully managing and growing it ever since.
In the coming years, Ms. Cochran envisions expanding her business into new locations, both domestically and internationally. Her plan includes opening additional beauty centers across various states and exploring opportunities in Africa, where she has already established some partnerships. Alongside her business growth, she is deeply committed to contributing to social causes, particularly in addressing trafficking issues. She aims to support individuals who have escaped trafficking by offering them career training and professional opportunities within the beauty industry, helping them rebuild their lives and secure stable futures.
