Overseeing all aspects of Bruno’s Pizza, Ms. Rumbelow manages a team of 55 employees and handles discipline and scheduling. Her leadership has been defined by resilience and adaptability, particularly during challenging periods, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. For over five years, she managed the restaurant entirely on her own following her husband’s passing. During this time, Ms. Rumbelow ensured that operations continued uninterrupted and that her employees remained paid despite significant personal hardships. She considers this accomplishment, maintaining business continuity and supporting her staff through adversity, as her most notable achievement.
Ms. Rumbelow distinguishes herself through an unwavering commitment to hard work and a deep appreciation for her dedicated team. Many of her employees have remained with Bruno’s Pizza for more than three decades, fostering a workplace culture rooted in loyalty and mutual respect. Ms. Rumbelow credits much of her success to these exceptional staff members, some of whom began working at the restaurant as teenagers and now hold key roles within the organization. Having previously operated two locations, Ms. Rumbelow made the strategic decision to close one three years ago to focus on strengthening the original site. She continues to adapt by remodeling the restaurant with new booths, tables, chairs, televisions and music systems while planning an expanded bar area for adults within the establishment. These enhancements are part of Ms. Rumbelow’s ongoing efforts to maintain a vibrant yet family-friendly atmosphere that honors long-standing traditions while embracing thoughtful progress.
Ms. Rumbelow’s sons, John Ryan, Nicholas Bruno and Trevor Paul, are now business partners at Bruno’s Pizza. She hopes they will eventually assume leadership of the restaurant, ensuring continuity for future generations. Family remains central to both her personal life and professional philosophy. Notably, photographs of grandchildren decorate the walls as daily reminders of these enduring values.
Ms. Rumbelow’s career began outside of hospitality. After earning an associate degree in criminal justice from Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, in 1987, she initially aspired to become a lawyer and worked as a paralegal assisting an attorney. Although accepted into law school at Baylor University, she instead chose to prioritize her marriage after meeting her husband, whose family owned Bruno’s Pizza. This pivotal decision led Ms. Rumbelow to join the family business full time while raising their children, often bringing them to work, where attentive staff helped care for them.
Leveraging her educational background provided valuable skills in organization and critical thinking that have supported Ms. Rumbelow’s ability to manage complex business operations over nearly four decades. The transition from legal studies to entrepreneurship required adaptability and perseverance, a journey she acknowledges was challenging despite inheriting an established business.
Community engagement is central to Ms. Rumbelow’s approach to business. She actively participates in local initiatives and maintains memberships with several professional organizations, such as her local chamber of commerce and the Better Business Bureau Inc., reinforcing her commitment to supporting East Texas and Tyler’s local economy. As a community partner and supporter of children with special needs for over 45 years through Bruno’s Pizza, Ms. Rumbelow has consistently prioritized giving back to those around her.
Throughout its history under Ms. Rumbelow’s stewardship, Bruno’s Pizza has earned numerous accolades, including Best Pizza Award and Best Pasta Award each year since 2021. In addition, she was named B.R.I.D.G.E. Partner of the Month by Tyler Independent School District in 2026.
